EA ap Background Service keeps running while EA app is stopped

Summarize your bug EA Background service running without EA App, doesn't stop with app close. MULTI-YEAR BUG! Stop closing the threads to hide this spyware always running. All background service options are disabled within the EA App. Notification: Disabled In-Game overlay: Disabled Accessibility: Disabled Update Games Automatically: Disabled Enable Background Downloads: Disabled EABackgroundService startup set to MANUAL EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: A PROPERLY WORKING APP will start the service when the application is opened, then stop the service when the application is closed. Actual Behavior: EA app starts the service. However, once you exit the EA App, it does not properly stop the EABackgroundService. This is invalid service usage. There is no reason for this performance robbing spyware to run when nothing else EA is running'. Sadly the moderators here don't want to hear about it so the incorrectly close topics about it as Necro even the topics have been active and getting posts for years. This is just trying to hide the spyware for EA. Expect they will close this post as well rather than letting it be seen as the long running problem it has been now.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? 1. Install EA App. 2. Goto Services for Windows 3. Set EABackgroundService to Manual and Stop it if it is running. 4. Start the EA App. 5. Refresh Service and notice EABackgroundService has started (this is correct) 6. Change the settings as follows: Notification: Disabled In-Game overlay: Disabled Accessibility: Disabled Update Games Automatically: Disabled Enable Background Downloads: Disabled 7. Close and Exit the EA App 8. Refresh the running Windows Services. 9. Notice EABackground service is still running - INCORRECT BEHAVIOR
What happens when the bug occurs? EABackground service stays running even with the EA App closed and all background processing functionality disabled.
What do you expect to see? EABackground service should enter a stopped state when all background processing choices are disabled in the EA app and the EA app is closed/exited. Moderators should not close related topics to the bug until the bug is addressed.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Install EA App.
2. Goto Services for Windows
3. Set EABackgroundService to Manual and Stop it if it is running.
4. Start the EA App.
5. Refresh Service and notice EABackgroundService has started (this is correct)
6. Change the settings as follows:
Notification: Disabled
In-Game overlay: Disabled
Accessibility: Disabled
Update Games Automatically: Disabled
Enable Background Downloads: Disabled
7. Close & Exit the EA App
8. Refresh the running Windows Services.
9. Notice EABackground service is still running - INCORRECT BEHAVIOR

BUG Behavior:

EABackground service stays running even with the EA App closed and all background processing functionality disabled.

Expected Behavior:

EABackground service should enter a stopped state when all background processing choices are disabled in the EA app and the EA app is closed/exited.

Moderators should not close related topics to the bug until the bug is addressed.

    This has been bugging me for awhile now and many others aswell. Some of us are very careful about what runs on OUR machines.

    Why does the EA app require a background service that must start with windows? Why cant it be started with the app and close with the app? Right now I dont have the app open but the background service is running doing whoknowswhat. Closing it forces us to restart our system because they cant be started manually.

    Origin works differently. It starts two seperate background processes, client service and web helper service. Both start with our operating system. But they arent running right now for some unknown reason. One of them starts again with the app and closes with the app.

    As a comparison, the battle.net app doesnt require any of this. I start the app, it starts the necessary seperate processes, I close the app and the seperate processes close aswell. Same with other launchers like steam, rockstar, gog and so on. They dont depend on it or it can be activated in an instant and closed just as easily.

    So what the hell are these processes running in the background for without the app?

    Hey @Zasz_Zerg,

    This is a setting that can be turned off if you go to the Download tab in the settings of the EA app.

    "Logging out will pause this feature" This doesnt really help. This isnt "closing the background process when closing the app". It just pauses whatever the app is doing because its closed. Totally closed because the background process doesnt have anything to run with but still runs.

    There is absolutely no reason why this cant be changed like other apps are clearly capable of. At this point this background process looks like it has to run at all costs to spy on us.

    This is an issue for me too!! I don't want the app to continue to run after I close out of it! I have the Orgins app also and since you can't run both at the same time it is very frustrating having to go in and close it in the background after you already closed the app which should close it completely in the first place! Give us an option to have it running in the background or to not have it running in the background

    Summarize your bug EABackgroundService has two privacy issues (A) Automatically starts with the operating system. 🍺 Doesn't automatically close after closing the EALauncher.
    How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
    Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? ​Install EA Launcher (Windows), restart PC. Services ​EaBackgroundService should automatically be present in the services list. Starting and/ or closing EA Launcher doesn't automaticly close EaBackgroundService.
    What happens when the bug occurs? Service keeps running.
    What do you expect to see? Service to either close after the respectable application is terminated and not automatically run on operating system boot.

    The EA Launcher ​uses a background service that can't be automatically set to close once the respectable program is closed by the user/s. The service "EaBackgroundService" continues to run and operate without the user's awareness.

    Leaving the background service running when the app closes is malware behavior. Close means close, not keep a service running to data-mine god knows what.

    @umeng2002 If I am not mistaken, service is running all the time (from boot to shutdown), and it has the NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM privileges.

    As to what it might be doing? It can do literally anything because it has SYSTEM privileges, and I am sure sooner or later some malware writers will find a hole in it and abuse it for privilege escalation.

    Why does there need to be an EA process running when I have exited the Windows 10 EA application ? The options I have chosen are for no background processes to be run, including no background downloading. So what exactly is this process doing ?

    Not only do I not understand why this process hasn't been killed when the App closed, but I want to know what exactly it is doing.

    My suspicion is that its listening to what cookies are being created from my browser, so its basically watching where I browse, what I search for etc And also what games I have installed etc.

    Just becasue I download an application on to my PC does not give you the right to snoop and look at what my PC is doing, and how I use it.

    @Red_Eagle_LXIX Yes I had the same. Applied fixes as described. Still does it. I see other settings in the EA APP are also missing. Wonder if EA guys will have a redesign or check up on the APP. I don't see any progress dont eh app was wondering how far they had got...anyone?
