EA app "failed to stage update"

I'm having this issue with the EA app where it says i must restart the app to complete an update. When i restart it, it gets to 100% on the download, and then when it gets to applying the update, it stalls at 0% for a few seconds before saying that the update has failed to stage. From what i can see the update downloads, unless it is another fake progress bar as a lot of things are and that I have now tried to do this update about 10 times, and then when it comes to actually applying the update, it fails.

If anyone can provide some tips before I have to reinstall the whole app, I would appreciate it 🙂

    So I cannot clear the cache of the app as each time i open the app recovery, it says it has crashed and then boots back into where I was before.
    I ran the system file checker, and nothing changed with the EA app.
    Would it just be easier to reinstall the app at this point?

    HI @Archar62 If you are unable to open the client itself you can try to by doing the following steps:

    From Windows 10 

    If you can’t open the EA app, you can also follow these steps to clear your cache. 

    1. Open the Start menu.
    2. Find EA and click the downward arrow to expand.
    3. Select App Recovery.
    4. A confirmation window will pop up. 
    5. Click Clear Cache.

    If you still can't then reinstalling would be the best route.

    Hi there, I've given up on trying to fix the app and now just trying to delete it.
    I've tried to uninstall the EA app, through the uninstaller and then through windows control panel, but the app just will not go away, no matter how many times I try, and the installer doesn't even work anymore.
    I'm not really sure what to do about it since I can't run it, uninstall it nor reinstall it.

    @Archar62 Are you getting an error message or what happens when you attempt to uninstall via control panel?
  • I've gone thru the same thing just trying to play Sims for the past few months. Horrible.

  • I'm having the exact same problem nothing works, I played the sims 4 yesterday and everything ran completely fine. However when I went to play this morning I get stuck on the same screen telling me that I need to restart the app in order to update it and no matter how many times I press restart it finishes the downloading process and then goes straight to the failed to update stage. I am also unable to click on anything else on the screen only the restart button, I can't go to the help bar or anything I couldn't even press the X to exit the app. please can someone help me?

  • I've been having this same issue and now after uninstalling and redownloading the app it worked for about 2 days and returned to this same behavior. Once again clearing the cache has no effect. Very frustrating.

    I had this same problem where it wouldn’t allow me to exit out of the app or anything and out of sheer frustration, i restarted my PC and it fixed my problem! The app successfully updated and everything worked fine! I don’t know if that’ll help you but just in case, try it!
