EA App on Mac having multiple problems

there's a deluge of problems going on with my EA App on mac right now.

1. i'm trying to open my Sims 4 game, but it says update required. when i tried to update it, it takes me to a popup on legal disclosures, privacy policy, etc. there are no boxes to check "I Agree" or something, it just has a "Continue" or "Cancel" box. when i click on continue, nothing happens. i tried to repair the game, uninstall it, whatever i try to do to the game, nothing happens. 

2. i tried to close and restart the EA App. but every time i do it, the app stops working altogether, wouldn't even open. it just appears on the dock, bounces a couple times, and a small dot appears under the app icon on the dock but there is no app window. tried reinstalling 4-5x already at this point to no avail.
