EA app won't launch game just says download or manage

Product: The EA app
Platform:PC
Error Report ID (learn how to create an Error Report ID in the sticky post)
Which client functionality are you experiencing this bug with? Launch Game
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) 05.28.2023
Summarize your bug When I open my EA app. My game no longer appears "ready to play" on left corner icon. Instead just says nothing and a download arrow instead. Then, when I click on game in Library. Says "Download" or "manage". I'm afraid download because it seems to want to download whole game again and I don't know what clicking on manage will do. I tried re-starting PC. But same thing. Usually EA app says, "ready to Play" with pic of game on left corner. I click on it and game is launched. But now confused as to why it does not show up. I heard there was an update. But now can't get into game as before. Is this a bug? I'm not very tech savvy when it comes to this so if someone can help, keeping it simple would be helpful.
How often does the bug occur? Rarely (0% - 9%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Play test EA app and try launching Sims 4 in your library. Again instead of saying, "ready to play". Mine now says, Download game or manage But it's already downloaded and sometimes comes up as "update complete". But still won't launch.
What happens when the bug occurs? Sims 4 game in library won't automatically update or launch. Just says "last played on May 8th" Download game, download complete, or manage game (?????)
What do you expect to see? My Sims 4 icon "ready to play" option in my left corner of EA app to launch game.

see above description. There isn't much more to add.

  • @Zmias1  Is your game still installed to the correct location?  It's probably one of these, unless you changed it manually:

    C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 4

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4

If so, clicking Download probably won't reinstall the entire game.  The EA App should instead verify the presence of the files and finish the install process, although I've had it redownload a few packs when I've tested.  Regardless, the only way to fix this is to at least let the App try to download the game again.

Oh, ok THANKS for promptly responding and letting me know!  While researching my issue, I read others had to completely re-download the game. But I did what you said and restarted the app. It took some time and then, on the third restart, I selected download and the EA app said, game was already complete and played as usual. It's the first time I saw this bug and was unsure what to do as the EA app got little weird on its screen, lol.

  • Did you figure out how to fix it? My game is doing the exact same thing. It won't let me play but if I go to files and my c drive, everything is still there and it's still taking up the GB it took to download it. Plus, this also happened right after the EA app updated. It's frustrating because, even if I wanted to download it again I can't because I don't have enough storage. I also bought the high school years and cats and dogs pack with it, so if it was to delete that would be very upsetting ☹️

  • I'm having the same problem - it perpetually says "download required" next to The Sims 4, no matter how many times I click and complete download (I've tried at least 4 times). At the end of the download, it says "wrapping up," and the bar fills completely, but it never tells me it's complete. I've tried restarting my computer. If I reinstall the game, will I lose all of my progress?
