EA Desktop Crash on App Launch

Summarize your bug When attempting to launch the application, an application error appears stating: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application." This occurs every time on attempted launch.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Unsure. It seems it may be a one-off thing, but since there's no steps to reproduce other than run the application, I have no idea how it could be reproduced.
What happens when the bug occurs? Error message, application crash.
What do you expect to see? I'm not sure, I've never seen the EA desktop application 😉 In all seriousness, expectation was to see EA desktop application launch successfully.

I installed the application to default directory. I have not restarted the machine yet, nor have I reinstalled the application yet. I will restart and see if that fixes and then reinstall and see if that fixes and update here.

Restarting my machine fixed the issue. It should be noted, there was no prompt suggesting restart after installation. The installer attempted to call the executable directly after installation and had the same error noted in the original post.

Also, in the bug report linked, there is an additional issue listed with the character counter for the bug reporter.

Best of luck guys, I really want this to take off and replace Origin 🙂

Restarting my machine fixed the issue. It should be noted, there was no prompt suggesting restart after installation. The installer attempted to call the executable directly after installation and had the same error noted in the original post.

Also, in the bug report linked, there is an additional issue listed with the character counter for the bug reporter.

my desktop app beta worked, then broke, then worked for a bit, & now since yesterday is broken again. i get the attached error message on launch. thank you.

Same. No error code just crashes as soon as it launches. Restarted my machine several times since this started happening mid November

I fixed it I fixed it I fixed it!!!!!
Basically I messed up the whole app because you know that is me and I made it worse by messing around with files. The app wouldn't open. So I had the idea of deleting the crash reporter (CrashReporter.exe and .enc) in the ea desktop file folder, which sounds stupid but now it cant tell the app to shut down so it loads as normal

Nothing else worked for me so I opened the EA desktop directory so if your having this issue open the EABackgroundService.exe located in that directory . I created a ghost process with Hstart_4.2 so this will start every time windows starts.

Problem solved on my side !
Solution :

1) Uninstall EA Desktop first and then delete the following folders (if exist):
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop
C:\ProgramData\EA Desktop
C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts
%HOMEPATH%\AppData\Local\EACrashReporter
%HOMEPATH%\AppData\Local\EADesktop
%HOMEPATH%\AppData\Local\EALaunchHelper
%HOMEPATH%\AppData\Local\Electronic Arts
2) Reinstall EA Desktop: https://www.ea.com/ea-desktop-beta
3) The installer will start EA Desktop and crash, then restart your PC and relaunch EA Desktop, and voila!
