Game License Invalid and 500 error

I Recently tried playing Sims 4 again (the last time I played was on 03 Aug 2023) and I keep getting an error saying that my GAME LICENSE IS INVALID. I checked to ensure that my EA app is up to date and did the clearing of the cache which of course did nothing. I'm pretty sure I'm in online mode since it shows that I'm online and shows my friends and lets me browse through games to buy. Although a weird error is occurring in which every time I go to the "add-ons" tab, it has a "500" error saying that "something went wrong, and that the server encountered a mysterious error". Can someone help me? I just want to play the game that I've paid hundreds of dollars for....

  • @rogansvettenfeim  Please try manually updating the EA App, which doesn't always register that it needs to update on its own.  Go here:

    C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\EA Desktop

and launch the EAUpdater.exe.  Then run the App Recovery tool again:

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/

Restart your computer, and see whether you can play Sims 4.

If this doesn't help, please test a different network, if you can.  For example, if your computer supports wifi, you can set your phone as a mobile hotspot, using data rather than your home network, and connect to that.  Simply loading the EA App and trying to launch Sims 4 shouldn't use much data.

CM edit: just sharing the link here to the old/closed thread about this issue.

  • I did everything you said, I updated the EA App using the EA Updater.exe, Cleared the cache a second time using the App Recovery tool, restarted my computer and even connected to a hotspot on my phone. All of which did nothing. I still got the "Game License is Invalid" error and I still get the "500 Something went wrong" error when I click on the addons tab. I'm connecting to the app just fine and my internet speeds are great.

    Hi @rogansvettenfeim

Which version of EA app are you currently using? Please check that you're at least on EA app version 13.166.

You can find instruction on manually updating your EA app version for Windows here

  • When I updated my EA App with the updater.exe it updated to version 13.173 and I still get all of these errors that prevent me from playing the game.

I'm getting the same exact error messages.  Both the 500 and the invalid license.  I've tried all the steps from here and other places with nothing working.  I'm running app version 13.180.0.5693.  I have windows 11 and the network is fine. I'm not using wifi.  Steam and Epic Games games load just fine.  I can't get the sims to start at all.  Any help would be appreciated.

    @annibean22 & @rogansvettenfeim

    Please try the following steps:

    • Open task manager, locate EA Background Service, and end task
    • Clear the cache for the EA app
    • Run the EA app as an administrator
    • Check for any background applications blocking the EA App
    • Try lowering your User Access Control Settings:
      • Close the EA app
      • Click the Windows button and type "UAC" in the search field
      • In the User Access Control window, click and hold the slide bar —slide it to the lowest setting available
      • Click Okay the bottom of the window
      • Open the EA app client and try starting the download again
  • Finally had a chance to try this and none of it worked. I lowered the UAC setting and I tried clearing the cache for the millionth time with the EA Background service task ended. None of that worked.
