Game not launching through Steam.

Since installing the new EA App yesterday, after a restart of my PC overnight 2042 isnt booting anymore.

Symptoms:

Open Steam >

Click "Play" on Battlefield 2042 >

Origin "Thin" loads tray icon and GUI appears >

Origin sits in system tray >

Steam button changes to "X Stop" >
Origin sits in tray a little longer >

Origin closes itself >

Steam button changes back to "Play" >

Game does not launch.

EAC splash screen does not appear.

EAC or 2042 executibles do not appear in Task Manager

New Symptom

"DisplayName field missing from registry\."

Things tried:

Clean boot

Verifying Steme Games Cache

Restarting Steam

Uninstalling EA App

Uninstalling Origin & Reinstalling

Restarting PC

Overnight Shutdown PC

Turning off ALL overlays

Launcing through Origin.

Using "Repair" through Origin (but that just seems to validate on steam)

Launching the game via BF2042_Launcher.exe

Launching the game via BF2042.exe

repairing EAC via EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe

Deleting ~/Documents/Battlefield 2042/settings

System Specs:

Win11 22H2

5900X

3080

32GB 3600 M/T RAM

NVmE install location

  • This seems to have randomly fixed itself, duno which thing fixed it combined with a shutdown overnight.

Same Issue here, didnt play for a while (month odd) then now cant start game, steam button changes for a bit, origin launches, then steam button says play again and origin stops.

Tried repairs. etc still not working,

last thing i have read is somethign to do with having dual screens, so might try unplugging my other next....in case that doesn't work, any other suggestions?

    Good day

This annoying symptom has also found its way onto my system.

Completed 2042 patch update, steam updated and then this problem.

Windows is up to date, as is the Nvidia driver.

I have removed steam, Origin and anticheat, reinstalled and same problem.

    Any ideas anyone?

  • Also my setup is as follows:

    ASUS B450-F Motherboard

    Ryzen 5 3600

    Nvidia Geforce 1660 Super

    32 DDR4 Corsair Vengance RAM

    650W Power Supply

    NZXT Kraken M22 Liquid Cooling

Another note, I have the same problem for Battlefield 4, with it not launching, just a problem I found with trying it on other games to see if any other games don't work. BF4 is the only one also not working

  • @EA_Atic  I have tried the methods as follows:

    - Restart Computer

    - Validating game files multiple times, on Steam and Origin (I own the game on steam) a reason for why on Origin will follow after this list.

    - Restarting the game client

    - Reinstalled 2042

    - Reinstalled Origin

    - Disconnected the link between EA and Steam accounts (reason will also follow after the list)

    - Task Manager'd the clients

    - Attempted a clean boot (I'm unsure if this was done correctly however I had tried it regardless and the amount of possible fixes is highly unlikely this would be the fix)

    - Turning off all Overlays

    - Checking the Nvidia Drivers

    - Checking for all updates (I was able to update the game still, last updated I had attempted was the Liquidators event).

    - Deleting Download Cache on Steam

    - Launching through the Battlefield Launcher exe

    - I always shut down my pc every night so this is a possible fix that would have worked a while ago.

As for what happens when I launch the game:

When I launch the game on steam the game appears to be working fine, sometimes the Easy Anticheat startup shows, sometimes it doesn't, most of the time it doesn't. Then the game goes to "Running" , then changes to "Stop" and then finally crashes and going back to "Play" after a short while (maybe 10-25 seconds), Origin loads up and I'm asked to sign into the client, I sign in no problem then the it takes the client to my games library where the page then crashes and says "looks like we're having some trouble right now, please restart the client or try again later" and I restart both the steam and Origin client and try again only for the process to be repeated. This has gone on for around 3 weeks now, I have recently installed a new version of Windows, whether that solves the problem I'm unsure and will check with you when I try it:

No it doesn't work still after installing the new windows update lol

  • same on me

even the same symptoms on me

and im in dell G15 laptop

    i7-11700H

    RTX3060-laptop

    16GB ram

problem since win11 22h1 to now i just installed 22h2

  • I've had this problem for about 3 weeks now, and i've tried practically every thing the other person has tried to no avail. Is there anything you can do to help my case ?

  • This seems to have randomly fixed itself, duno which thing fixed it combined with a shutdown overnight.
