Solved

Game not launching through Steam.

Since installing the new EA App yesterday, after a restart of my PC overnight 2042 isnt booting anymore.

Symptoms:

Open Steam >

Click "Play" on Battlefield 2042 >

Origin "Thin" loads tray icon and GUI appears >

Origin sits in system tray >

Steam button changes to "X Stop" >
Origin sits in tray a little longer >

Origin closes itself >

Steam button changes back to "Play" >

Game does not launch.

EAC splash screen does not appear.

EAC or 2042 executibles do not appear in Task Manager

New Symptom

"DisplayName field missing from registry\."

Things tried:

Clean boot

Verifying Steme Games Cache

Restarting Steam

Uninstalling EA App

Uninstalling Origin & Reinstalling

Restarting PC

Overnight Shutdown PC

Turning off ALL overlays

Launcing through Origin.

Using "Repair" through Origin (but that just seems to validate on steam)

Launching the game via BF2042_Launcher.exe

Launching the game via BF2042.exe

repairing EAC via EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe

Deleting ~/Documents/Battlefield 2042/settings

System Specs:

Win11 22H2

5900X

3080

32GB 3600 M/T RAM

NVmE install location

  • This seems to have randomly fixed itself, duno which thing fixed it combined with a shutdown overnight.

  • @h3x1ethe same thing happens with Jedi: Fallen Order too. I don't understand what's happening and EA really messed up by switching from Origin. I have also tried all the methods to fix it, nothing working, EA please fix your platform.

Like me, for Star wars Fallen Order... the game still in my EA library but not marked as installed, and won't be launch via steam...

I can launch the game via Steam\steamapps\common\Jedi Fallen Order\SwGame\Binaries\Win64\SwGame-Win64-Shipping.exe but w/o steam success and cloud save...

  • Having this same issue with Battlefield One. Have tried several posted fixes and nothing works. EA please actually do your job and make something playable.

Same thing with It Takes Two. I requested a refund off Steam. What a dang shame.

  • For someone who is still facing the problem: Just turn off any overlay you have, in my case it was MSI Afterburner. If you want overlay in game, just turn off overlay, launch game then turn overlay back on again.

  • you are so right i closed Gamefirst its an app and BF1 started thank so much

  • I'm experiencing the same issue; my Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Battlefield 1 won't open. I've tried everything you suggested, and I'm still experiencing the same symptoms. I just bought Battlefield 1 and Star Wars: Jedi Survivor. I want to play them, but I can't. Please help me.
