You can still use Origin client. Some are saying you can re-install it after you've installed the EA app so, then you'd have both.
I guess they're doing this cuz some games need the EA apps background service to work properly.
So, if you want Origin client still, just re-download it.....you can get it from multiple places....or;
https://www.techspot.com/downloads/5783-origin.html
Stop origin client loading EA app message;
1. Open C:\ProgramData\Origin\local.xml in notepad
2. Add new key there:
<Setting key="MigrationDisabled" type="1" value="true" />
This should go at bottom just above the last line which is "</Settings>."
Save the file and exit. Now launch Origin and that stupid notice will be gone.
Congrats...you can now play your games properly.

You are not of any help whatsoever as putting code into notepad doesn't do anything but save text and
is what I get whether it's the "thin" or full origin install. I ***can't get to S4!
I am not a tech, capisce?
Choosing Edit on the dropdown to that file I get WordPad and the following result:

I think there must be some miscommunication / interpretation issue...... tom_looken's solution works great if you do it right. So, I'll try an break it down a little more clear for you.
Now that you have installed Origin Client, you have the EA client notice popup which locks the client. Basically, it is unusable at this point.
NOW, close the client and look in your PC folders. You want to change 'view' settings to 'Show hidden folders / files' Then look in C:\ drive. You will see a folder named C:\Program Data. Inside there is C:\Program Data\Origin\ In the 'Origin' folder is a file named 'Local.xml' You want to edit this file using Notepad.
You can open Notepad, choose File--Open and then browse to that location to open the 'Local.xml' file. Now you add that line of code down near bottom just above the <\Settings> line. So, it will look like;
<Setting key="MigrationDisabled" value="true" type="1"/>
<\Settings>
Then close the file and choose 'Save' when it prompts you for an option.
Now you can launch Origin client and that popup notice should be gone.
If still unclear on what you're doing, feel free to ask specifically what you are having a problem with so someone can try an help you further. Good luck and happy gaming.

@tom_lookenThose links just close for me or bring up the EAapp website.
edit: Nevermind. Brave is autoclosing them for no reason. Oddly enough Edge let me download the client.
