Mac EA app - "The app crashed unexpectedly" or "Background Services Crashed"

Hi everyone,

Are you experiencing the "The app crashed unexpectedly" or "Background Services Crashed" on the EA app for Mac? Then this thread is for you.

PLEASE READ

If you're experiencing the error(s) while using the EA app for Mac, even after clearing the EA app cache (if possible), or downloading and installing a new copy via ea.com/ea-app, please share the following data with us where possible:

    Hello everyone,

    Thank you for continuing to report the "The app crashed unexpectedly" and "Background Services Crashed" errors on the EA app for Mac.

    We've heard from some players that updating your Mac to the latest macOS version, including incremental updates, can resolve the issue. Additionally, some users have found that a simple restart of their machine helps.

    Updating the client

    For those still experiencing the problem after trying these solutions, we've released a new version of the EA app for Mac (13.206) that will hopefully address the issue. The EA app periodically automatically checks for updates and will install this version when you next launch the client. However, if the EA app won't boot, you can download the latest version directly from https://www.ea.com/ea-app.

    We will also be releasing additional fixes in the coming weeks.

    When does the error occur: "Background Services Crashed" appears every time I attempt to open the EA app

    What is the current version of your EA app: I cannot open the client. But I re-downloaded and re-installed the app this week.

    At some point EA should offer to refund people's gaming libraries. This is simply insane.

  • Hi, I've had an issue with the EA app crashing on my mac. I try to download the app to launch the game, and it works, but when I try to run it on my mac, it bounces once and then does nothing. Nothing appears, no trace of the app, and certainly no interface.

    I've tried shutting down my computer, I've tried restarting, I've tried deleting and restarting... but no progress.

    Please help out?

    I have cleared the cache, deleted all the background applications that may interfere (vpn, antivirus, etc), updated my macbook to its latest version, deleted and reinstalled the app multiple times using both google chrome and safari for downloading.

    i have tried everything, but it is not working, though i only turned the sims 4 game off for a short 30min break, and since then it has stopped working.

    can't open the app, but I downloaded the .dmg today May 15th

    Please share the most recent EA app logs and attach them to your post (): The app never opens, there are no logs.  

    When I first install it, it says that it's an app downloaded from the internet, I click "Open Anyway", the icon bounces but then shuts down.  I checked security, and the EA App doesn't show up there to bypass the security lock on installed apps.  Trying to open the app again does the same thing - it bounces then nothing.  No error message, so warning, just not opening.

    I've downloaded and attempted to install this about three times now, and it does the same thing every time.  I've restarted, followed all the standard IT troubleshooting things (turn it off and on again, close all other programs, etc) and nothing has worked.
