Unable to unlink account on a used Series S

I bought an Xbox Series S off of Facebook, but now i can't play Battlefield because the old account is linked. I have opened multiple cases, and i cant believe why it is so difficult to change an email address. I cant play a game I own, this is ridiculous. Has anyone had this problem and solved it? One of the suggestions was to create a new xbox account, i was blown away they suggested this compared to changing something as simple as an email address.

Sorry, I’m not entirely sure I understand your request. Are you trying to change the email address on your EA account, or are you trying to unlink the Xbox account from the EA account belonging to the console’s original owner?

If it’s the latter, I’m afraid only the original owner can handle that.

I need to unlink the account that came with the xbox i bought. Since you cant unlink my xbox without the original owner, will i never be able to play an EA game on my console? That sounds a bit absurd to lock out someone who wants to play your games. I have already purchased games that i will never be able to play.

How did you purchase the game you already own? Was it purchased using this Xbox account that originally didn’t belong to you?

I purchased the game on the Microsoft store with the gamertag i've had for over 10 years but since the xbox is used, it has someone elses EA account on it, since those stay with the xbox.

Gotcha. Since the console is already in your possession, you could try following the Xbox-recommended steps for “Preparing an Xbox console for a new owner,” meaning you.

After that, you should be able to use your own Xbox account to link with your EA account and play the game.

I will try that and let you know if that works. I thought that no matter what, an EA account will always be linked to that xbox. Is that true?

If you follow the guide, it should essentially reset the console to a “like new” state. The EA account the console links to depends on which platform account is connected to it.

You need an EA Account to play Battlefield 6, as your game progress is stored through your EA Account.
