Why can't I have lesbian in my username?

It's 2026 and EA is still promoting homophobia by restricting LGBT usernames? No other major gaming company does this, even NetEase.

Hey Giiiiiiinger username restrictions are in place for a number of reasons.

Part of the issue is that people will take something innocuous and use it to create something offensive.

It's not fair on those of us who want to use a certain name in a positive manner but in order to protect others we need to have to put certain restrictions in place.

I will pass your feedback on to the team.

Why not just action individual offenders instead of attacking the people you claim to be protecting? I can use my desired username on every single other major platform without issue, blanket censorship of LGBT identities is not seen as a necessity anywhere else.

Keeping our games a safe space Giiiiiiinger is important and it means that at times we need to make hard decisions and usernames are one area where we do this.

  • Except it's not a safe space because you're actively silencing LGBT identities. The homophobia here is being done by EA.

As I said Giiiiiiinger we will pass your feedback on to the team.

Being proactive rather than reactive means that at times our teams have to make some hard decisions in relation to what is and is not permitted as a name in-game.

That some bad actors will use usernames to be rude, offensive, racist, homophobic and so on means that our teams have to take certain actions that not all may agree with.

It's about creating a safe space for all users and while I understand that you are angry, these decisions are done by our team to keep everyone safe.

  • Again, why can you not action individual offenders separately? The vast majority of usernames would be fine, and the handful of cases of abuse should be able to be dealt with easily by a company with as many resources as EA, just like how it works on every other platform as once again this level of censorship is not deemed necessary anywhere else. You are not creating a safe space by telling LGBT people that they aren't allowed to be open about their identity because they're less important than a handful of bad actors, you are creating a space of implied hostility, and I can guarantee you if there were a single LGBT person involved in this decision they would tell you the same thing. At the very least, there should be some avenue to appeal for a manual name approval.

  • If feedback is actually taken seriously then ok, thanks. But it doesn't really give me much confidence when this has been an issue on EA for years after multiple cases of trying to contact support about it.

As I said Giiiiiiinger understand the frustrating but let's cool it a little. Let's not make wide sweeping generalisations about EA employees or why something is done in such a way.

All I'm trying to do is help and sharing the context as to why some username are not allowed.

There's nothing more that I can add to this conversation.

We will pas your feedback on.
