Split Fiction: audio is extremely quiet

the only sound that's audible in this game is the opening advertisement showing the EA/Unreal/etc logos. everything after that is quiet, despite my volume sliders all being at 10. my computer volume is quiet high as well.

some other odd things I've noticed: 3D audio is enabled with no way to disable it (no idea what that is), I can't enable streamer mode (not that I'd want to, but in other games I'm free to enable/disable streamer mode as I wish), and the volume dynamic range is set to cinematic with no way to change that either.
