EA Play Pro subscription payment not going through

I had an EA Play Pro membership (monthly subscription) for several months until January 2025 when my subscription was somehow cancelled bc EA wasn't able to charge my linked PayPal account.

Since then I've been trying (without success) to re-subscribe to EA Play Pro using PayPal as a payment option but I keep getting "There is no funding source added to your PayPal account. Please add a card to continue." message in the checkout window.

The thing is, there are several verified payment sources added to said PayPal account, PayPal support checked the account, it's in a good standing and has no blocks or limits, AND all other subscriptions continue to be charged just fine. I've tried different VISA and Mastercard cards issued by different banks, all of them somehow get rejected with the same error text that does not say much. I also went through the forums and read all the help documents there are on the website, but none of the suggested causes are applicable to my case.

TL;DR: can't make any payments using PayPal but used to be able to do so without a problem until recently. What's changed and how to fix it? I just want to play my video games in peace.
