VR image is terrible in drive mode and rear view only in instant replay in vr

Product: F1 24
Platform:PC
Please specify your platform model. PC
Summarize your bug VR looks terrible when driving...other screens fine. I downloaded the suggested Nvidia driver 551.23 and when that didn't work the latest driver. Same issue...almost a shimmering screen door effect, like you might see in extreme heat in the desert but worse... that for me makes the game 100% unsatisfying to play. It only happens in the actual driving mode. not in any other screens. Example, when in garage, and after leaving, horizontal lines, like fencing, are slightly moving almost like shimmering. When driving, this also affects curbs and such making it very unpleasant. I tried with two headsets.. The HP Reverb G2 and the Quest 3. Same thing. I adjusted graphics settings from the Low to ultra high. I run high end system...13900kf Intel cpu, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090...lots of memory everywhere. I also own F1 23 and it looks fantastic. I duplicated the exact same graphic settings in 24 and it's terrible. I also duplicated settings from Steam VR so same in f1 23 and 24. One more thing having hard time resolving. When I hit for an instant replay, the view is rearwards. No idea how to change that. But can't use instant replay until that's fixed. Until I can resolve these two issues I cannot play this game. I only do race sims in VR.
What is your 16 digit Report Code? PVER-XVGE-KBAJ-VAPD
What peripherals are you using? Please list the exact make and model. Fanatec CSW v2.5, Fanatec CS pedals v3, HP Reverb G2 and/ Quest 3, both tethered with cable.
Can you please provide the name of your current internet service provider? T-mobile
Which area is the bug/glitch in? Single Player
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Play game in VR with HP Reverb G2 or Quest 3
What happens when the bug occurs? already described this is not intermittent but whenever I am in drive mode in VR...both issues...bad graphics and rearward view in instant replay.
What do you expect to see? clear image that blows my mind, like in f1 23.

don't have any additional comments other than I keep going back and forth between F1 23 and 24 to confirm one looks fantastic..the new one like poo.

  • I had this issue and what actually solved this for me was to

     * set the Window Resolution high, since it appears the game will render in headset in whatever your game window resolution is so try setting that to 1920x1080 or something similar

     * In Video Mode, use either of the TTA options for supersampling.

  • Dunno what's wrong with your setup but for me the graphics when driving in VR are fantastic and even better than in F1 23.

Too bad that it again does not support OpenXR like F1 23 but hey, my i7-13700 / RTX4090 is capable of giving good performance in OpenVR using my Varjo Aero, too.

(Although I'd still prefer OpenXR but I already feared that EA has no intentions to invest any work here...)

  • Thanks for your reply. I have no idea what is causing this as it’s the exact same setup as F1 23. I’ll keep banging away as time permits.

  • I’m going to simplify the above. When I run f1 24 with the exact same settings as f1 23 with the HP Reverb G2, the quality of graphics is great in 23, and awful in 24. This is only in the drive view; rest of screens are crystal clear. Almost as if looking through the original Quest for everything Outside of the car. The only weirdness in car is little shimmering of horizontal and vertical lines..like on the driving wheel.

Thanks! I'll give that a try. I'm actually reinstalling the game as I have had several other issues (rearward facing view on Flashback.  And when I booted up pc and game today all settings were set to Amateur...I was on custom and Expert).

That did it!! Thanks so much. I believe it's switching from the Nvidia setting to the TAA setting in antialiasing that did it..not sure about the supersampling you referenced but when I changed the windowed settings to a bit higher and the other to TAA it fixed the issue. Still having issue with Flashback not working (showing rearview making it useless). But this was the big problem. Thanks again!

  • Hello EA game developer.

VR use is terrible, I used Oculus 2 on F1 23 and it was acceptable, Now I upgraded to meta quest 3 and F1 24. The inside of the car looks good. On the track the distance to the next car forward is a disaster.  When you will fix this problem. The future gaming is VR for me. Other gaming companies don' have this problem. AMS 2 looks very good and so does iRacing. My system is a intel 5, GPU 4060ti 16 GB and 48GB ram.

  • I have the problem too with the meta quest 3. I change the meta quest to 120hz etc nothing worked.

The good news and the bad news is it’s not the game.  It’s either settings or the PC.

I have two headsets, the reverb and the quest three and both look Seriously good in VR. Reverb, better of course but just a little.  I know it’s frustrating trying to work it out but worth it. Just keep reading online.  Start with the above as the in game graphics settings solution recommended above by DepatchMode worked for me.
