2025 Special Livery Feature

The F1 games have always featured special events where you can either unlock special liveries from the current season, 2023 had the likes of the special Ferrari Las Vegas livery, The 2023 RB Miami livery, The McLaren Triple Crown livery and so on and so forth.

F1 2024 didn't feature much, maybe one or two from either McLaren and maybe another manufacturer, however with the current season of F1, I feel that there's some really special liveries that stand out in a big way, regardless if you're a fan of the particular team or not, for example, this year we got probably one of the most iconic liveries from Red Bull with the Japan race with the white and red livery, which paid tribute to Honda by sporting a design inspired by the RA272, which gave the engine manufacturer its inaugural win back in 1965. (pictured below)

We've also seen McLaren sporting their Monaco livery a week or two ago (pictured below)

and we've also seen Haas with their Japan livery (pictured below)

My point is that I feel that EA should consider adding a function for whenever you create a grand prix, maybe career or whatever mode allows you to race the official F1 cars and underneath where you select the team / car to race in, adding a "Toggle Special Livery" option which allows you to switch between the special liveries that manufacturer has released during the season.

For example and pictured below, this function could simply be added beside the advance option, I'm on console so my advance option is A but there could be an option beside this that switches the liveries of that manufacturer, maybe the X button or whatever corresponding button or key bind you have on your platform of choice (mock up pictured below)

I also feel that considering that for other titles such as Assetto Corsa, a team of people or even one person can create a livery as soon as it's revealed in real life and released to the public for free or an optional donation to the creator for their hard work.

Pictured below is both this seasons Red Bull Japan Livery and McLaren's Monaco livery for Assetto Corsa.

Now, it's understandable that when it comes to certain sponsors, maybe EA can't acquire certain licencing deals and it's understandable that in EA Sports F1 games, they don't feature any alcohol or gambling sponsors as that would then make the game rated for 18's or above and EA want to cater to all age groups and casual audiences, however I feel that requesting a function like this should be a simple enough ask for the fans of the series and of the sport who want to race around tracks with their favourite liveries throughout the season.

And before it's mentioned or even considered, this shouldn't be a function or additional content that we seen back in F1 2023 where we could only use the Ferrari Las Vegas livery for roughly a week or two and then the car reverted back to it's default livery, no, this is an update that adds a functionality to simply toggle liveries at your discretion so that we can race in our favourite liveries now and into the future, for as long as the game is active.

So please EA or any devs or community managers reading this post, please consider this feature as liveries such as the above have already released prior to the games launch so it feels that even with the current roadmap or plans ahead, these liveries might be missed.

Please also share you own thoughts below and upvote this as much you can if you feel that you agree with this idea for a future update or near soon update!

  • Just to follow up on this post and to show how easy something like this would be to implement for EA,

People have already created mods for F1 2024 for liveries such as the Red Bull Japan Livery...

I don't mean to single out Red Bulls artistic genius or anything 😅I'm a Ferrari fan at heart, but it's just examples of things like this can be done, modded yes, but with the resources of EA, I feel like this is an easy win to satisfy every fan of each team and the liveries released throughout the 2025 season.

The people creating mods don't have to ask permission from the teams or pay a licensing fee for image and likeness usage, game developers do.

If EA and the teams decide it's to their benefit to have alternate liveries in the game, then they'll be there, otherwise they won't.

That's a fair point and as mentioned in my original post, I understand that there might possibly be issues surrounding licencing fees etc..

However, considering over the past several years we've had featured special liveries from most teams in the game, I feel that if we're expected to receive any this season, including them as a toggle on, toggle off option would be much better than a limited time thing or liveries we can only use for our F1 world cars which most of the time, do look nice, but they don't really fit the F1 world cars.

I feel the toggle on and off option would be a great alternative to use on the official F1 cars 🙂

Yea, it would be nice for them to be permanently in the game and be able to choose from them any time we want but.... Limited Time Events create FOMO which encourages people to hurry up and buy the game and then while your playing you better hurry up and buy the podium pass too before that goes away...

My broader point was, EA knows what they're doing, and what's best for them isn't necessarily what's best for us.

When it comes to FOMO, it's always a big part of that formula to hook people but when it comes to FOMO, that could still be applied to a feature like this when it comes to EA's perspective.

Take for example the suggestions I put forward here, have the option to toggle special liveries for a particular team, but in order to acquire that livery and keep it for that team on the official F1 cars, create a limited time event, pretty much the same thing we seen back in F1 23 where you could unlock all of Max Verstappen's helmets from that season and then his world champion helmet and create an event where maybe you have to beat a particular lap time set by the driver or win a series of races set out by EA or something of that nature, but you have to complete these challenges within a certain time, maybe a week or two weeks and then if you miss out on that challenge, well then you miss out but for those who complete and pass the challenges, they get to keep that livery for that team?

I'm sure EA could think of something but regardless of parameters of the limited time event, we've seen things like this where you could unlock special liveries in the past but they could only be used on the F1 world cars but this idea would be excellent to engage people with the game for the official cars 🙂
