Feature Request: Optional Disconnect Forfeit Mode for Competitive Play
Dear EA Sports FC Development Team,
I have been a FIFA player for many years and currently play EA Sports FC 26 on PlayStation 5, mainly in Online Seasons.
I would like to share a suggestion that I believe would significantly improve fairness and competitive integrity in online matches.
The Problem
I frequently experience the following situation:
I am winning a match, often by several goals or immediately after scoring.
Suddenly, the following message appears:
"The connection to your opponent has been lost. The match result will be reviewed."
However, in many cases, the match is not counted at all. I do not receive the win, the match disappears from my history, and it is treated as if it had never been played.
What is particularly noticeable is that this almost always happens only when I am winning.
As a player, it is extremely frustrating to spend 15 to 20 minutes playing a match, earn a legitimate advantage on the field, and then receive no result at all.
My Proposal
I understand that it is not always possible for the system to determine with complete certainty which player caused the disconnection.
For that reason, I would like to propose an optional feature called:
"Treat Any Disconnection as a Forfeit"
Players who choose to enable this option would voluntarily accept the following conditions:
If my connection is interrupted for any reason (Internet outage, console shutdown, power failure, game crash, or any other cause), I automatically accept a loss.
If my opponent disconnects for any reason while the match is in progress, I automatically receive the win.
This option would only apply to players who choose to enable it before entering competitive online modes.
Why I Believe This Would Improve the Game
This system would provide several important benefits:
Eliminate any incentive to disconnect while losing.
Protect victories that have been legitimately earned on the field.
Reduce the frustration caused by matches being discarded.
Encourage players to maintain stable Internet connections.
Increase confidence in the fairness of Online Seasons.
Why I Believe This Is Fair
I fully understand that Internet connections can fail.
I also understand that game servers may occasionally experience technical issues.
However, I believe that in a competitive game, sporting fairness should always take priority.
Personally, I would rather lose one match because of my own connection than lose dozens of well-earned victories simply because the system cancels the match after my opponent disconnects.
If I choose to enable this option, I willingly accept full responsibility for the stability of my own connection.
I am not asking for special treatment.
I am simply asking that if my connection remains stable and my opponent disconnects while I am winning, the effort I invested during the match is recognized with the victory I earned.
I believe giving players the freedom to choose this competitive rule would create a fair balance between personal responsibility and competitive integrity.
Additional Suggestion
I also believe EA could automatically identify accounts that accumulate an unusually high number of disconnections while losing.
Such patterns could be reviewed to detect potential abuse without affecting players who experience occasional legitimate connection problems.
Final Thoughts
I truly appreciate the enormous effort required to develop and maintain a game played by millions of people around the world.
I understand that no online system can ever be perfect.
That is precisely why I believe offering an optional feature like this would improve the experience for players who value fair competition.
I am not asking for an advantage or preferential treatment.
On the contrary, I am fully willing to accept a loss whenever the disconnection is my responsibility.
All I ask is that the system protects victories that have been legitimately earned on the field.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read my suggestion.
I sincerely hope you will consider it for a future update.
Kind regards,
PD
A player who voluntarily accepts a loss for any disconnection clearly demonstrates that they are not trying to exploit the system. Instead, they are accepting full responsibility for their own connection in exchange for one simple expectation: that legitimate victories are never lost because an opponent disconnects. This option would reward honesty, personal responsibility, and fair competition—values that are at the heart of every competitive game.
