EA Is Ruining the Little Free Time Working Parents Have

I’m not writing this as an angry player.

I’m writing this as a working father.

My best friend is a working father too.

Life changes when you grow up. Work, family, bills, responsibilities, children… Gaming is no longer something we can do every evening. Sometimes we only get one night every week or even one night every month to sit down together, play Online Seasons with our favorite clubs, and enjoy a few hours like we used to.

Those evenings mean more than just winning football matches.

They’re our chance to relax.
To laugh.
To forget about work for a while.

Then we’re leading 2–1 in the 90th minute.

Our opponents realize they’re going to lose, disconnect their internet, and the match doesn’t count.

In a second, our entire evening is gone.

Not because we weren’t good enough.
Not because we lost fairly.
But because someone abused an exploit that has existed for years.

What hurts isn’t losing a win.

It’s realizing that the little free time we had has been wasted.

People often say, “It’s just a game.”

No.

For many adults, games are the only way we stay connected with old friends. They’re the only few hours we have to escape everyday stress.

Why should honest players have to hope their opponents are honest?

Why does EA leave fairness in the hands of people willing to exploit the system instead of preventing it?

Ultimate Team already has better protection against disconnect abuse.

Online Seasons deserves the same respect.

We don’t want compensation.

We don’t want free rewards.

We just want one simple rule:

If you disconnect intentionally, you lose. If your opponent stays, they win.

Respect our time.

Because once it’s gone, no update can give it back.

  • Sorry to see that you have been having issues TheUpDestLee.

Just so you know, if you get a loss then it generally means that you are the one who had the connection issues. A disconnect does not mean your internet went down, it can simply be bandwidth-related.

As a dad myself, I now how hard it is to find time to game, my kid's sleep pattern was reset when he was sick so it's now 11pm or 1am some nights before he goes down so finding time to game is hard.

What I would recommend is for you and your friend to take a couple of minutes to go through our connection troubleshooting steps here

It will take a couple of minutes but should hopefully help with any connection issues.

Let me know how you get on.

  • Hi Darko,

Thank you for your response, and I appreciate you sharing your experience as a father as well.

However, I think the main point of my post may have been misunderstood.

I am not simply reporting random connection losses or occasional bandwidth problems. The issue happens in a very specific pattern: we are winning, often near the end of the match, the opponents disconnect, and the match is then not recorded correctly or no win is awarded.

Our connection remains active. We stay in the party, we remain connected to EA’s servers, and we can immediately start another match. That is why a standard connection troubleshooting guide does not really address the issue I am describing.

If the problem were genuinely caused by our connection, I would expect it to happen randomly while winning, losing, or drawing. Instead, it repeatedly occurs at the exact moment the opposing team is about to lose.

I understand that it may be difficult to determine which side caused a disconnection, but automatically assuming that the player receiving the loss had the connection issue does not explain situations where opponents are deliberately exploiting the match result system.

This is not only about one lost match. It is about whether the game has a reliable system for identifying intentional disconnects and correctly awarding results.

Could you please clarify whether these matches and disconnect patterns are investigated by the development team, rather than directing affected players only to general connection troubleshooting?

    Thank you.

Another important point is that we do not experience this problem in Ultimate Team. If the losing player deliberately disconnects their internet for example, by unplugging their router the match still counts and the other side is awarded the win.

However, in Online Seasons, opponents appear to be able to disconnect intentionally to prevent the match from being recorded. This strongly suggests that the issue is not simply related to our bandwidth or connection, but rather to how Online Seasons handles intentional disconnects and match results.

  • This happens to me often as well.

There are cheaters who are using scripts which generates this. Just before this type of disconnect (not others) the game image gets blurry before the disconnection. When this happens, I will get a DNF penalty despite leading the game!??!!!?

It is all very simple. This game has been full of cheaters since 10 years and now it is even worse because the scripts they use are so many and harder to detect. Some of their EA IDs show up as "offline" even though I am playing with them! I guess EA has an automated process which tells them that when the player is "offline" he cannot be cheating....

All of these players have Strikers who have made 500 goals but just came out on the market....

I have the exact same frustration. When I play Champions, the 5-6 first people I meet are 95% of the time cheaters and I lose the game.

My solution to get rid of the frustration is to never by this game again.

Find another hobby. Learn an instrument. Start painting....
