Opponent's ping

Good afternoon. Could you explain to me why, if my opponent has a ping of 106 and everything is fine on my end, the game starts to lag and there are delays between key presses, while my opponent has no issues and scores goals while my players are slowing down? What's the point of playing with people if you can win because of lag? The game should not allow people with high ping to play.
