Solo Rivals always matches me to 80–100 ms server
Platform
Xbox Series X
Region
Durban, South Africa
ISP
123NET Fibre (1 Gbps)
Issue
Since around 31 July 2026, Solo Division Rivals has consistently matched me to servers showing 80–100 ms before I even accept the match.
However, every other test I’ve done suggests my connection is perfectly capable of reaching the South African server.
Results from my testing
Solo Division Rivals (I queue by myself)
- Always shows 80–100 ms before accepting the match.
- Every match is played on approximately the same latency.
Co-op Rivals
- When my friend is the party leader, the match is consistently 20 ms for the entire game.
Clubs
- When I am the captain and queue for Clubs myself, I consistently get 12–20 ms.
Mobile Hotspot
- If I use my phone’s hotspot instead of my home fibre, Solo Rivals drops to approximately 50 ms instead of 80–100 ms.
Troubleshooting already completed
- Restarted router.
- Restarted Xbox.
- Restarted FC 26.
- NAT tested (Moderate).
- Xbox network reports:
“Your network is good, but there may be matchmaking issues.” - Router restart made no difference.
- Cross-checked with friends.
- Other South African players/streamers are getting 8–20 ms, so the Johannesburg server appears to still be online.
Network tests
I also ran traceroutes to EA endpoints.
The traffic leaves South Africa almost immediately and traverses Europe (Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris, etc.) before reaching EA infrastructure.
I understand these may be authentication or matchmaking servers rather than the actual game server, but I thought this information might help.
Why I don’t believe this is my internet
If my connection was the problem, I would also expect:
- Clubs to have high ping.
- Co-op Rivals to have high ping.
Instead:
- Solo Rivals = 80–100 ms.
- Clubs = 12–20 ms.
- Co-op Rivals = 20 ms.
This suggests the issue is specific to Solo Rivals matchmaking or the server/data center being selected for my account when I queue alone.
Request
Could someone please investigate whether Solo Rivals is assigning certain South African players to the wrong data center or incorrect matchmaking region?
If there are any EA developers or support staff who would like additional information (timestamps, gamertag, traceroutes, etc.), I’m happy to provide it.
