Defending in EAFC26

Does anybody have any advice for optimal defending? Everygame opponents seem to play in an identical manner, exploiting cut backs and Jockeying/Contain are simply too slow to deal with it. I feel like I might be missing some simple mechanic to deal with it, but if I even attempt to try and press with a full back it's a guaranteed goal for the opponent. Scoring goals is not such a big issue, but I feel it's almost impossible to defend on this game, while opponents unrealistically turn in circles and I can't get close. I've had a few games where my opponents seem to compress the pitch similarly to older titles (I stopped in 21, cos of the disconnect hacks people were doing)

  • If your opp knows how to left stick dribble til your defenders forget how to defend, there’s nothing you can do this year. I’ve tried getting hacky with offsides traps and team pressure but as li nag as they are able to turn back towards their own goal, your defenders will push up, they’ll leave a game, the they can just turn back around and play a through ball. Same with cutbacks, you can have them marked but unless you bring a winger or striker back to tackle, you’re helpless.
if you have any sort of “delay” you may not ever be able to get the ball of them this year. I’ve played some guys I could not touch until I slide tackled them. Ea coded something horrible into defending mechanics where someone can just constantly turn away from you and you player can’t time a tackle much less try to poke the ball.

  • Also the pressing thing is entirely “delay” related. I’ve watched back replays and messaged guys i thought must know a tactic I don’t and they’re playing the exact same tactics as me. What happens is if your behind your opp, the attackers will be further into the interception and pressing lanes than they normally are. It gives the impression your just being read but if you watch back the replays it’s just ai moveing quicker into space than your able to turn/pass/dribble. The same guy that look like they’re pressing are the same who you’ll see their CB be glued to striker as he receives the ball. They’re not controlled, the AI is just ahead of you.

That's what I was afraid of, What tactics are you using btw? It really feels like they nerfed the jockey mechanic into the ground at a moment when it has never been more necessary lol

  • Defending in general is just broken this year.

Dumbest ai ever that doesn't track runs properly, jockey speed way too slow, tackles delayed and have a pathetically short reach, defensive awareness stat appears to mean nothing and physicality for defenders and a lot of mids non existent... the list does go on.

This is all magnified due to the absolutely over the top buff to dribbling, making even superman jealous of the speed they move and turn at.

A fix is needed because the casual player (which makes up the vast majority of the playerbase) will just leave.

Oh and their poll, hidden away on their own discord about the state of defending got mostly voted to stay as it is... by 7.5k people... when millions play this game, so don't let them say that the majority want it this way, it's orchestrated bs.

4231 or 442 high balanced. If you use rm/lm on wide midfielder they defend the whole game and it’s hard to break down until the game decides your CB or full backs need to open up 10 yard passing lanes for now reason.
as for the dribbling, it’s mostly the turning that needs a buffing. It is just not possible in a soccer sim that players can be aloud to turn so quickly or in such tight spaces without repercussions. Every year until now, you could anticipate, play a tackle, or body a guy trying to do a 180, now, especially if they’re a woman player, they just turn and go.

Yeah, overall the gameplay is enjoyable, but the turn dribble thing and AI just watching players run past them is quite irritating. I feel my cortisol levels go through the roof playing in Division 7 (Not played a ton so far, mainly spent my time unlocking transfers and playing seasons) let alone how stressful champs must be with this absent defending.
