Honestly, the higher you get the worse it gets on this game, at least for the majority of people you will face. Most top players outside of pros abuse mechanics like no tomorrow it's been that way for years, I'd rather face someone with a little bit of flair about them than what you are describing.
It doesn't help that there is god knows how many videos about the mechanics and how to abuse them. I faced an example earlier with that whole switch the ball from rb or lb up to wingers from kick off bs, once you take that away from their game they have very little to offer. It's kind of sad to see the way the game has gone, but I'm too old to care enough anymore, the higher divs and mechanics abuse is for the younger crowd, I just want a bit of fun in my gameplay.
