Disconnections and General Game play

FC27: A Month In... and What a Mess It Is

This game has been out for over a month now, and honestly, it's impressive how many things are still broken.

Disconnections - The Real Ultimate Team Experience

Let's start with the biggest issue: the random disconnections.

Ever since the end of FC26, there seems to be a bug that disconnects players at random, and somehow it's been copied, pasted, and lovingly transferred into FC27.

Before anyone says "it's your internet" - no, it isn't.

I'm on a wired connection with high-speed broadband. I've had engineers test the line and they've confirmed everything is absolutely fine.  It looks more like an EA server issue than anything at my end.

You know the moment. That dreaded little green FC27 logo appears at the bottom of the screen, almost like it's warning you what's coming next:

"Nice match you're having there... shame if something happened to it."

Then boom. Disconnected.

I've been kicked out of every mode imaginable, online and offline. At this point, completing a full match feels less like football and more like a survival challenge.

And the best part?

After the game disconnects you, it gives you that lovely message saying YOU disconnected and may be punished.

No, EA.

I didn't disconnect.

Your game disconnected me.

That's like a restaurant dropping your dinner on the floor and then charging you for wasting food.

Gameplay - 50+ Skill Moves Nobody Uses

The game boasts a catalogue of over 50 skill moves.

Fantastic.

Now can somebody point me towards the players actually using them?

Skill moves work brilliantly when nobody is near you. The moment a defender gets within five metres, the animation takes so long to complete that the AI reads your intentions, writes a report on them, and steals the ball before you've finished flicking your right stick.

In hundreds of online matches, I barely see anyone using the majority of these skills.

The meta seems to be:

  1. Hold L1.
  2. Hold L2.
  3. Spin around repeatedly.
  4. Wait for space to magically appear.

That's not football. That's Beyblade Ultimate Team.

Referee Kits

Can somebody please buy the referees a different coloured shirt?

Half the time they're wearing colours that blend perfectly with one of the teams.

I've made more accidental passes to referees than some of my midfielders.

Matchmaking - Am I Playing the Same Game?

One game I'll comfortably beat an opponent.

The very next game I'm facing someone who appears to have Jedi reflexes, predictive powers, and what can only be described as a direct fibre connection to the EA headquarters.

Meanwhile, my players feel like wearing concrete boots.

Their players accelerate instantly.

Mine require a written request and three working days' notice.

So is there skill-based matchmaking?

Because sometimes it feels less like matchmaking and more like spinning a wheel of fortune.

95 Depth - Where Is The Stamina Drain?

Let's talk about 95 depth.

The game tells us it's supposed to drain player stamina.

Interesting concept.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to happen.

Teams can press relentlessly for 90 minutes, sprint around like they've collectively consumed 37 energy drinks, and still have enough stamina left for extra time.

If someone's playing 95 depth, their players should eventually look tired.

Instead they're somehow fitter in the 88th minute than they were at kick-off.

Long Balls, Long Balls, Long Balls...

Long ball.

Long ball.

Another long ball.

And just for variety...

Long ball.

It's about as exciting as watching paint dry while listening to a podcast about drying paint.

Female Players

At this point some female players are stronger than Kratos, faster than Usain Bolt, and apparently immune to the laws of physics.

I fully expect one of them to shoulder-charge a centre-back into another postcode and then jog away without breaking a sweat.

The Beta vs The Full Release

This is perhaps the most confusing part.

Every year I play the beta version, and every year the game feels great.

Tackles work.

Passing feels responsive.

Gameplay is balanced.

Then the full game releases and it's like a completely different development team finished it.

In the beta, if you win a tackle, you usually win possession.

In the full release, winning a tackle feels like activating a pinball machine.

The ball ricochets off three players, a shin pad, the referee, a passing pigeon, and somehow lands straight back at your opponent's feet.

Every.

Single.

Time.

Please, for everyone's sanity, sort this mess out.

Because right now, the most realistic thing in FC27 isn't the football.

It's the feeling of disappointment after full time.

Thank you for your time 🙂
