Exchanging event shards for players

Why does every single event involve me exchanging shards for players?

I'm finding it VERY boring that each event that comes out has me attempting to collect players to exchange for shards which I can then exchange for a "good" player.

Essentially each event is the same but with new graphics and colours. Everything else is pretty much the same. The same process to get players/shards.

It's getting really boring. 

Would it be too much to ask for some originality and different events that don't always require getting players to convert to shards which are then exchanged for players?
