EA Play trial not available if user has both EA Play and EA Play Pro

This is not a surprise since the same happened with College Football and it was not fixed and the users affected by this were not compensated in any way. But as expected, the EA Play 10 hour trial is not working if a user has both EA Play subscriptions active and linked to the EA app.

Steps to reproduce:

  • The user account has EA Play through Game Pass Ultimate. The account also has EA Play Pro directly from EA.
  • User installs Madden 27 through the Xbox app Windows version or through the EA app Windows version. In the Xbox app, the 10 hour trial is visible. In the EA app, both EA Play and EA Play Pro are visible.
  • The app installs the EA Play Pro version of the game which can't be started until August 10
  • There is a trial version .exe in the game folder, but even starting that manually does not work.

Expected result:

The user with a regular EA Play subscription should be able to play the trial on PC even when the user has an additional EA Play Pro subscription since these are completely separate products.

Same issue here. EA Play Pro through the EA app, and EA Play with Game Pass. I contacted support and they were no help. I was able to get the trial to work by signing up for yet another EA Play membership for 99 cents through Steam.

Man I'm so glad to read this because I'M having the same issue. You're absolutely right support were absolutely no help. Just saying what shouldn't be happening and no actual solution.

  • Thought I was doing something wrong. I have EA play through Xbox game pass and also subscribe to EA Play Pro. Absolutely insane to not have access to the trial because of this.

did you have to purchase the game through steam? cause i have it purchased through the EA app which auto dowloaded it to my xbox app and am not trying to spend 70 more dollars on this. also is it going to carry over on your normal account or is the steam version that you bought gunna be a whole acc for just this madden

  • Same, on Xbox.  I don't even have the Madden icon.  If I go in to manage the MVP Bundle I can see Madden there but it states does not need to be installed.  I believe this happened last year.

I had the same issue since I have EA Play Pro and Game Pass Ultimate/PC Game pass. I was able to get into the trial though by doing the below, in order.

    • Logged into the EA site and Unlinked my Xbox account.
    • Went back to the EA app and clicked the 3 bars on the top left, help, and then App recovery.
    • Signed out, and went to task manager and ended task for the EA app.
    • Created a new EA account on the website with a secondary email and linked it to my Xbox account.
    • Logged out of the xbox app and ended task in task manager.
    • Go back to the xbox app, log in, click play on Madden 27, then logged into the new EA account when the log in popped up.
    • Once in the EA account since Madden isn't there, I had to click download (Since its on my PC it hit 100% in about 3 seconds)
    • I was able to get into the game but was getting an error saying the game was owned by another account or something to that effect and it kicked me out.
    • Went back to the EA app and did the app recovery again, signed out, ended task in task manager,
    • Then finally went back to the xbox app, click play, log into the new EA account again and I was able to get in and play without issues.

Since the new account does not have EA play pro on it and just affiliated with game pass ultimate/PC Game pass, It allowed me to start using the trial. In theory wonder if you can just cancel the EA play pro account for the weekend.... and have the same result.... But IDK

Will say this though. If you do this it will tell you that you cannot unlink the new account until like February or April of 2027 when you go to the EA website and attempt to unlink it. Though Im not sure it really even matters because I can log into my original EA account in the EA app and play all my other EA games right from there. Just checked and played Madden 26 without issues 10 minutes ago.

This is just my experience and what worked for me... not sure if I will run into any issues later... but so far so good, and I guess I will cross that bridge when I get there.
