Cancellation of Mass Effect 🤬
EA’s corporate greed has finally destroyed one of the greatest franchises in gaming history.
The news that EA has cancelled the next Mass Effect and completely closed down BioWare is an absolute gut-punch. It is incredibly obvious that this decision was made just to line the pockets of big bosses and satisfy corporate greed at the expense of the developers and the fans.
You gave us that teaser trailer back in 2020. It got so many of us incredibly excited for a follow-up to the story. We have been waiting patiently for six long years, holding onto that hope, only to be told out of nowhere, "Nah, you're not getting another one, we cancelled it". To pull the plug like this after stringing the community along for over half a decade is a total slap in the face.
The original creators who brought us the magic of the original Mass Effect trilogy should have been left alone to do what they do best. Instead, we got constant executive interference and studio mismanagement from suit-wearing bosses who don't play these games and don't care about the art. It is exactly like a government deciding what is best for regular people when they themselves live in total luxury. You have absolutely no concept of how deeply this IP runs in our community, or how much we cherish these worlds. I have played through the entire original trilogy multiple times. I absolutely loved the overarching story, the cinematic movie-like cutscenes, and the deep, raw emotions that ran through the entire journey. These games weren't just products to us—they meant something.
I have loved Mass Effect, but this is the final straw. From this moment on, I will not spend another single penny on an EA game. I refuse to be milked like a cash cow just so executives can fund their fancy houses and luxury cars. I know for a fact that I am not the only gamer who is completely sick and tired of corporate greed ruining the passion of this industry.
Goodbye, BioWare. You deserved so much better than what EA did to you.
