Mass Effect 1 - Legendary Edition - X Box Series X - Can't switch weapons?

Question

Mass Effect 1 - Legendary Edition on X Box Series X -- Can't switch weapons, stuck on rifle with scope. I go into the wheel and select a weapon, then hit B to back out and when I start playing again, I still have the rifle with scope. I saw this issue on some message boards, but nobody has a fix. Understanding I am a new player of an old game, I understand if I don't hear back..... but I must know.... has anyone else seen this? Can anyone help me fix? I am selecting the weapon correctly. It is a bug. How do I get it fixed?

Usually you press LB to quick switch between weapons and hold it for the wheel. Sometimes when you change your weapon in the equipment section, it can make you get stuck with the sniper rifle... But then again, select another weapon in the wheel and you can switch it between the rifle and your current weapon. I believe it forces you to always have the sniper as secondary.
