ME won't start -> DirectX problem

Hey guys.

I've been reading through a lot of different post in here, dealing with various problems with ME not working, but I haven't spotted any sharing the same problem as me.

I installed ME 12 days ago (Mass Effect Trilogy), and have been able to play it until today. But when I try to start it up now, the ME launcher starts, but stops again as a pop-up appears, saying: "Please install DirectX 9.0c or later (see Release Notes for instructions on how to obtain it)". I'm using Windows 8.1, and therefore ofc DX11.

Is there any way that I can solve this problem, that appeared out of nowhere? I've tried running ME and Origin as admin, as compatible with WinXP SP3 and others, followed the instructions with making the "MassEffectLauncher.exe"-file in the root.

I'm not very computer savvy - I just want to play and finish this awesome, nostalgic game. Help will be greatly appreciated! 😕mileyhappy:

  • Try the "disable origin in game for this game" option in the game properties. Had the same problem and that fixed it for me.

Try running the following installer from this default location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect\__Installer\directx\redist\DXSETUP.exe

Thank you for the reply, but did it earlier, and it didn't help. Did it again now, and still the same outcome. 😕mileyfrustrated:

It just really annoys me that it have worked for almost 2 weeks, and then all of a sudden it decides to stop working.. I don't get that. 😕mileyindifferent:

OMG I FOUND IT NEVER MIND ....THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS

  • i had the same problem aswell. Today i wanted to play mass effect and noticed that origin had an update and after that i got the same problem.

I guess something in the update perhaps caused it? Anyway i'm glad that disabling "Origin in-game" solved the problem and that i am now able to enjoy the game again!
