ME1: Faster Normandy Elevator?

Hello, this is kind of a quality-of-life request, but when I played the original PC release of the first game, the elevator that went down to engineering was significantly faster than it was on console. On the 360 version of the game, it was slow due to what I assume was an attempt to make sure all the models and textures were loaded by the time you got down to the next level.

It was unfortunate to see that the slow-paced console version of the Normandy elevator was retained for the Legendary Edition, especially since a big selling point of the remaster was to cut down time spent in elevators while on the Citadel. I was wondering how much work it would be to speed up the Normandy's elevator for the remaster, as it was in the original PC release of the first game?

Thank you for your time.

  • I was about to reply that anyone who complains about how slow the elevator is in ME1 has some kind of anxiety restlessness issues, but that's definitely not how slow mine is. Just 3-4 seconds, the walls are moving faster as well. So it's not just time but the velocity.

I have a good ol' Intel Core i5-4690K paired with a Radeon RX 5600 XT.

Could you test the game in a clean boot state to see if there is something on the software side that is interfeering?

Make sure your virus scanner and other security software and also Afterburner and similar software is disabled.

Idk if I'm just not doing it right, but I attempted implementing the instructions in the link and, once I loaded my computer in a clean boot state (with networking, cause Origin won't let you launch games without an internet connection), the game was slower than ever and it added about 7 seconds to my elevator journey (plus a loading screen at the end).

I'll admit, I'm simply not confident enough in my software abilities to systematically disconnect each process one by one to check for what's causing the elevator issue.

BUT I just bought a 1TB SSD and will install the game on that as soon as it arrives to see if it solves most of the issues I seem to be having with it.

It sounds like you booted into Save mode, that is in fact something different than a "clean boot".

Inside a Save Boot no drivers are loaded and so the entire game is indeed very much slower.

Inside a "Clean Boot" all drivers are loaded, but third party applications and services are disabled and virus scanners should be disabled additionally.

Oh, you're right. That's exactly what I did.

I followed the instructions more closely (with some help from a friend) and managed to load my computer in a clean boot state as instructed.

Started the game, got on the elevator, and clocked 19 seconds on my phone's stopwatch from when I pushed the button to when I regain control of my Shepard. Unfortunately still slow...

I'm gonna update my status once I get the game installed on my SSD (it should be coming in the post tomorrow).

Update: After transferring the game to an SSD, I now clock 10 seconds instead of 15... at least it's an improvement!

  • Lol, this is a "solution?" You clocked videos from PC hardware about a decade old and figured that the loading times would be similar now.
