You need to check it at EA.com, follow this link.
Windows update is probably reinstalling it because MSI flagged it as a necessary driver component.
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
- Write or copy and paste hdwwiz.cpl into the new Window > Press Enter.
- In the device manager right click the "Nahamic" entry > Properties.
- Choose the "Details" Tab > expand the "device description" and select "Hardware ID"
- Copy the Hardware id to notepad or the editor.
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time
- Write or copy and paste gpedit.msc into the new Window > Press Enter.
- Go to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Device Installation Restrictions
- Double click the "Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs"
- Activate the policy. > Click on "Display" beneath.
- Copy and paste the hardware ID into the "Value" box > Apply (OK)
- Check "Also apply to devices that are already installed" (Or similar, my Windows is not English 😉) beneath > Apply > OK.
- Deinstall the Nahamic device and the software.
Thanks, I will look it up.
May I ask what exactly worked for you?

Yes, if the right region is set for your EA account.
The game is an international version, so it should still launch, but if the EA account is set to the wrong region, there may be problems.
- 5 years ago@holger1405 Hmm ok let me play around with the region and see if that does anything

@holger1405 Any progress in my case? Got a problem with another game after updating from Win 7 to Win 10, read that the problem may be caused after such an update, and started wondering if that could've caused problems with MELE as well. Will do a clean OS install this week anyway, but could my problem be related to something screwing up during the update?

If it is set correctly, leave it that way.
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
- In the new Window, type or copy and paste "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" (Without the quotation marks) > Press ENTER
- Look if there are any "MassEffect1.exe.Xxxx.dmp" or "MassEffectLauncher.exeXxxx.dmp" files in the "..Local\CrashDumps" folder.
- Zip 2 - 3 "MassEffect1.exe.Xxxx.dmp" or "MassEffectLauncher.exeXxxx.dmp" files together and upload them at a free file hosting service like Dropbox or Onedrive.
- Post the link here.
If there aren't any dump files of ME:
- Press the Windows key > Write: Command Prompt > Right click on "Command Prompt" in the search results > Run as administrator.
- Copy and paste reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\devenv.exe" /v DumpType /d 2 /t REG_DWORD into the prompt Window > Press ENTER.
- Play the game until it crashes.
- After the game crashes, let all Windows crash dialogues finish.
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time. > Type "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" (Without the quotation marks) into the new window > Press ENTER.
- Zip 2 - 3 "MassEffect1.exe.Xxxx.dmp" or "MassEffectLauncher.exeXxxx.dmp" files together and upload them at free file hosting service like Dropbox.
- Post the link here.
If you want to undo the automatic dump creation, use the command below in a elevated command prompt (As in point 1) reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps" /f

The overlays are still disabled? If not please disable them again, also shut down Discord for the time being.
To be clear, all 3 must be disabled at the same time.
If you did not already done it, try to repair the game.
(Origin > Game Library > right click MELE > Repair)
(Steam > right click at MELE > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game cache.)Then preform a clean boot and test the Game in clean boot mode.
Make sure your virus scanner and other security software and also Afterburner and similar software is disabled.
Make also sure that your GPU & CPU are not overclocked.
- Go here
- Choose your OS > Install all the newest drivers that are available. (Only the drivers, not Software or Utility.)
(Restart your system after any driver you installed.) - Test.
- 5 years ago@holger1405 Thanks I will give that a try tomorrow when I'm free and will update the thread with how I get on 👍

@holger1405
Did those thing already, but just now did them again for good measure:
1. Completely disabled overlays on both apps with Discord off, tested, didn't help
2. Verified files through Steam (did that 4-5 times already but just did it again), all files successfully verified
3. Checked for any modifications to settings I'd have forgotten about, GPU is in factory settings, my CPU has overclocking locked, OC Genie was off
4. Just did a clean boot with Microsoft Defender completely disabled, tested, game didn't change in behaviour in any way, games still crash after selection and send me back to the launcher - 5 years ago@holger1405 Hi, thanks for your time but nothing changes. I'm in the same loop. I try to play in the three games, but the three do the same thing.
- 5 years ago@holger1405 Unfortunately those steps did not work ☹️ there was no mass effect file present in the crash dumps folder only one or two other files (1 for EA Desktop) but none were recent.
I ran the command you mentioned in the command prompt then try to run the game (usual thing happened were it minimized the Origin window as if it was a bout to start a game then went straight back into it) checked the CrashDumps folder again but still didnt see any file
