Re: [Steam Deck] ME1 Crashing after EA app Update

Hello.

On my Steam Deck (steam OS Holo), the game Mass Effect™ Legendary Edition stopped launching.

The launcher doesn't even start.

I tried the following:

  1. Rebooting.
  2. Verifying the game cache.
  3. Completely uninstalling and reinstalling.

None of these steps helped.

Please tell me what to do?

  • I did all that.

My game launches without a problem and I can play for a while, but it randomly crashes during loading screen and completely freezes my deck. I tried everything proton related, reinstalling the game, verifying files etc. This did not happen before the latest EA App update. I believe there is a memory leak issue because while running the game my RAM usage goes up constantly until it crashes. I don’t think a game like this warrants 14-15gb RAM use especially since the minimum requirement is 8GB. It shouldn’t go up so high that it hard crashes the whole system.

  • No mods. And the game worked fine until the latest EA App update.

  • @EA_Illium I have the exact same problem. ME1 was working great for me. I put in around 50 hrs without any problem. I have no mods running and have tried the fixes suggested in the Steam links you shared. The game started crashing after the most recent EA update. Can you give us an indication if a fix is in the pipeline please? Thanks

  • @EA_Illium I'm experiencing the same issue mentioned above and have no mods. I've run all 3 games just fine on my steam deck until the recent EA app. When running the game the RAM spikes to 14gb RAM causing it to crash and me having to forcefully shutdown my steam deck with the power button. I really hope this gets fixed soon please because the game is completely unplayable on the steam deck now and it really sucks.

Recent EA app update is causing Mass Effect Legendary to crash on Steam Deck. As soon as I try to play the games the RAM jumps to 14GB and causes it to freeze and crash forcing me to hold the power button to shutdown my steam deck. No mods and have reinstalled the game also verified file integrity so it’s definitely not me or my steam deck that’s the issue. I’ve also been getting the EA crash error message occasionally so there’s probably a memory leak. Please put out an update that fixes the game. Played it 3 weeks straight with no issues until last week….thanks

CM edit: split off post from thread as it is unrelated & changed title of post.

    @EA_Illium @EA_Leeuw

Not to be rude but I don’t understand how it takes for the entire EA app to crash yesterday for EA to finally take notice that there is something wrong with the app. Not only that but all they care about is the Sims… it doesn’t even sound like anyone is working towards fixing the issue causing Mass Effect Legendary not to work on the steam deck. At least give us an update, most of us have been experiencing this issue for weeks and the moment I make a post about it on the EA app outage forum it gets removed and label “unrelated”???

I suggest everyone in this thread submit a ticket to EA support. They may not monitor these forums, but companies always monitor support requests.

I’m not sure how to do that?  Can you post a link and I’ll do it.

  • Hi @EA_Illium

There are loads of us having the same problem . It’s clearly an issue with changes made by EA. As a community manager, can you provide us loyal customers and keen ME players with some sort of update. EA often get a bad rap for their customer support. Could you buck this trend and show that EA does in fact care about their end users. Thanks Champ x
