Goalie Masks

Once again. In order for specific designs regarding masks, as well as the ipad created ones, you have to first establish agreements with mask designers. An agreement was established regarding the ipad generated masks, but limited to the ones now available. In order for EA to allow a design engine, to create masks. They once again  need permission, or agreement from the designers of masks. Which is seperate from the NHLPA agreement. The masks used in the game today is from a tri mutual agreement. NHLPA, Designers  and EA. Anything other than what is already allowed, would need a new set of contractual agreements.

I think you could use a generic goalie mask model with no brand affiliation to allow custom designs without needing to get permission from anyone. Obviously, you wouldn't be able to apply custom goalie masks to real-world NHL goalies who have agreements with their mask artists, but for World Of Chel - where customization like this would be hugely popular - I don't see EA having to get permission from anyone. Other than the trolls of course who would have to agree to play nice.

This is the hard part. Trolls are gonna troll. Hopefully, we can find a good solution in the future. That would most likely help with adding more customization options.

I do see your point. However. By EA allowing one to design their own mask, somewhere along the line a similarity may occur to a certain pre designed mask. This could open an action of infringement. I do like the idea of producing ones own concepts. But as always, someone may in their endeavours, overstep the boundaries, and cause a problem. Its like the trolls that have been mentioned here. Do you think they would abide by guidelines? And then theres the question of. The designed mask you create, is it intended for a current NHL, AHL goalie. And if so. Would permission be needed by that said goalie to be allowed to don it. Since all NHL goalies are under the NHLPA agreement. And this is where EA and the NHLPA agreement come into play. Is EA open to allowing this to happen, without an enhancement to the current agreement. As it stands. They are not. Your thought should be directly addressed to EA. As only then, would you get an answer of substanance. Keep pushing for what you want!

Why cant we make design our own masks in the NHL game itself? You have the rights to the logos and you dont need anything else that requires trademarks to make your own mask. You have royalty free letters and numbers and shapes and colors. Squares, circles, lines, arrows, triangles and have shapes of cars, planes, trains, boats, and structures like buildings and bridges, houses. You can have animals, that dont require EA to purchase. 

If you are worried about offensive designs, then only have them in BAP to start with so no one else can be offended. Then hold a community competition by people to come up with new goalie masks designs that were created by using the goalie mask creator and then upload them to the forums where you pre approve non offensive designs and then the community or EA picks the top 2 or 3 designs per team that can be added to an update and be used by other players for use in other game modes. Just be clear by uploading a mask design gives EA the right to approve and disapprove any design in other modes and are royalty free, but give credit to those who designed it.

Everyone wins. I remember there was a creator like that used in a Call of Duty game where one could design their logo, It was so much fun creating your own, but seeing what others came up with. I think the community would like that.

Agreed. Still stems from pre-agreed contracts with the NHLPA and designers. Allowing to create ones own mask design, could potentially lead to an infringement on individual rights, regarding similarities in design. Also. Any use of NHL property. Players, logos, etc. With out written consent, would lead to a lawsuit. EA would have to address the current agreement, to allow individual designs to take place, while being acceptable to use the NHL property.

Im all for that bud. But like i stated in my previous post. It becomes an issue of trust, and the need for someone to monitor before being allowed. Your idea and concept are quite valid. Hope in 27 this concept can find fruition. Dont give up hope!
