BfN cancelled months before the official cancellation?

Just as a reminder, we were promised the game would see new original characters being added instead of variants. They also promised Ops Phase 3 during Founder's Edition. I wasn't a big fan of GW2 and liked BfN from the beginning, but I still (in part) bought this game because they promised the addition of many new characters and Ops Phase 3. If they had added Phase 3 and Iceburg Lettuce before the cancellation, this wouldn't feel as bad. Now we're stuck with a bunch of broken promises and no new PvZ shooter in sight.

To be clear, I don't blame the devs for this and think they have done a good job with the few resources they had. May complaint is that they shouldn't have this few resources to begin with.

This just makes things sadder than they already were. It was obvious that something was wrong pretty early on, but the pull out of so much of the team for the Skate game when BfN wasn't even that old yet makes it worse. It a way it appears they tossed the game onto the store  just to get rid of it, which is sad. Was it taking too long to finish and they wanted it to be sold before it was ready? It sure looks that way. I still believe BfN could have been fantastic had they put more work, time, support, and promotion for the game. I'm biased as I love PvZ and don't care about Skate at all, but it still looks like a terrible way to handle things.

This job listing was opened on the 18th of August. It already mentions that the team has moved on to their next challenge. I also like how they admit that the launch of BfN was "recent". I feel like there should be more of a backlash against EA, considering people were very upset about Anthem and so on. A full prize title with micro transactions being dropped 6-7 months after release should be more upsetting, but apparently no-one knew the game existed so know one cares now.

This makes things look even worse than we thought then. Was it doomed from day one? Had they already planned for it to have just one year of festivals and only gave us content that was already mostly done? A couple years work went into it, and a lot of the team did come from GW2 (some go back to GW1 like Justin), and to have them release a PvZ shooter with so little promotion and in such a bad state at launch, and then leaving for this Skate game has very bad optics. Why they'd bail on a successful IP like PvZ for something like Skate is a head scratcher. It was big in its day, but the skate culture was much larger back in the 80s and 90s, not so much today. 

@shurikeninja Thank you! I don't really want to create some sort of conspiracy theory or a narrative that "EA bad because EA". I do love the game and think the developers are awesome people. All of these points, however, make it seem very unlikely that BfN wasn't cancelled around that time and that the just didn't say anything in order not to create a backlash. And I think it worked. I recently watched the PvZ YouTuber collaboration ob why BfN failed. Most people featured there said that while there were many signs, the cancellation must have been rather sudden because of all the unreleased content like Iceburg Lettuce. The one Job listing at least confirms the devs new about the cancellation for some time and didn't just wake up one day with the message "BfN is cancelled", like we did. I feel like more people should know about this, but I also don't want to spread false information. After all, we can't confirm it is true. We can only safely say that the team was already "Moving on to their next challenge" on August 18th. I wish I had seen that job listening earlier, then we would have been prepared. I remember the community was talking about possible 1st anniversary specials at the time. Well, what we got on September 1st certainly was out of the ordinary.

@Iron_Guard8 As the people in the Skate Teaser said, they were trying to get a sequel made for years. EA only approved it now because the Skate community was stubborn and bombarded every EA post with Skate stuff, apparently. They said "You guys commented this to life". The PvZ community, on the other hand, consist of children who can't voice their opinions online yet or 20-30 year olds. The latter group only does the following on social media, especially reddit:

• make terrible memes
• trash BfN and praise GW2 to heaven (As I said before, having preferences is fine, but attacking everyone online who disagrees is not)
• Discuss different variants for the 100th time

If the PvZ community could stop dividing itself and acting like infants, there would be a chance of "us" accomplishing the same as the Skate community. I guess the main differences between the 2 are:

1) Age -> The Skate community mostly consist of people old enough to have active social media accounts who will voice their opinion

2) Time -> The Skate franchise was absent for more than 10 years

Right now many PvZ you tubers make clickbait videos like "GW3 confirmed?!??! as soon as there is 1 little insignificant change. It hurts me to see that the people in the comments there express their wishes and think it will happen. It won't. At least not in the next few years, as Motive Vancouver is busy working on Skate and the development of a new PvZ shooter would also take years. They could task another team with it, but I would want a Sequel to be made by the same great people who made BfN. We also don't know in which state the entire franchise will be in years when a sequel would be taken into consideration. Maybe PvZ 3 can't be adapted to meet expectations and then there won't be many fans left.

Only time can tell if and  when we can clear the lawn of the dead in a 3D shooter again.
