BfN cancelled months before the official cancellation?

As the title reads, I think the people who remained at the BfN team are now working on Skate. Interestingly, BfN stopped getting major updates and the devs went radio silent around the same time Skate 4 was announced at EA Play. BfN wasn't as much as mentioned at EA Play. Justin Wiebe's Tweet announcing he would no longer work on PvZ was also released around that time, I believe. Some job listings and Rob Davidson's Twitter account seem to confirm this. Please keep in mind that I'm trying to connect the dots. The screenshots I'm showing are the facts and they do line up with my theory, but that doesn't have to mean it is true. I have come to the conclusion that BfN was cancelled or at least drastically reduced in scope and funding before EA Play. In order not to create a huge backlash a là "EA stops supporting a full price title after only a few months!" that would damage their image, they allowed the team to add some minor new content in September.

I thought about this again and remembered the upgrades for Iceburg Lettuce were added recently. That doesn't appear to be the case, though. I have seen a data miner say they haven't been working on it for months. The only thing that really happened between the radio silence and the final update was the devs trying to make Super Bean a playable character. Then the teams would have at least been equal. It appears they couldn't complete it in time, so now we're stuck with the only major new content added being Wizard, TV Head and Wildflower.

As can be seen in the last screenshot, Skate 4 was announced on 19.06.2020.

I guess BfN would have been cancelled anyway and the remaining PvZ devs were instructed to work on Skate as it is early in development.

It seems like BfN didn't have to die for Skate to live, but it is still pretty said. Their website states "the studio has recently embarked on bringing a beloved and revered IP back to life.". I hope the Skate community will be happy with Skate 4, as the revival of this beloved franchise coincides with the death of another beloved franchise.

The fact they did the whole "this announcement may change as we listen to our communities feedback makes this feel even worse. They apparently decided to cancel it months ago, only told us 3 days before the games 1st anniversary and still decided to indicate there was hope, only to never explain what the statement was about and crush every little piece of hope left. Now PvZ3 is off the radar for at least some time and there is no PvZ title with active content support. But according to the director of PopCap Seattle PvZ is alive, sure. Even if they announced and released the PvZ RPG, it would be another non mainline mobile game.
