š Pogo Players: Browsers Are Changing ā What You Need to Know
Chrome, Edge, and Firefox are transitioning to rapid release cycles, and they will begin releasing new updated browser versions every two weeks and compatibility fixes released as needed between those major updates. Safari follows a different model and will continue silent patches and software updates.
Brave, Arc, Vivaldi, Opera, and DuckDuckGo all rely on Chromium as their underlying engine. Theyāre downstream browsers, meaning they inherit changes from the major browser engines. When Chromium updates, these browsers will update shortly after the release of the major browsers.
This shift represents a significant acceleration in browser update schedules across the industry. These faster cycles mean security fixes, performance improvements, and compatibility updates reach our devices sooner than ever before!
For a browser-based gaming site like Pogo, the faster pace of browser changes makes ongoing performance monitoring especially important across all major browsers. This is the fastest coordinated major-browser release cadence in the history of the modern web.
Browser Updates and Device Maintenance
If youāve been a Pogo member for a long time, youāll probably remember when we didnāt have to worry about cookies, browser settings, graphics drivers, or updating. Programs were installed once, updates were rare, and everything stayed the same.
Today, technology works differently. Browsers, operating systems, graphics drivers, security software, and websites update. Cookies, site data, privacy settings, browser permissions, and outdated software and cached files can all influence how a device preforms.
Updates are important to our devices because they provide security fixes, compatibility improvements, and performance changes. However, a change in how a browser handles graphics, memory, cookies, privacy settings, extensions, or a new web feature can occasionally affect how a single browser-based game loads and performs.
Three Steps to Keep Your Games Running Smooth
Pogo games run through our browser and device. Browser updates, graphics drivers, extensions, stored browser files, available device memory, and internet connection can all affect how a game loads and plays. If a game freezes, will not load, shows a black, blank or white screen, has missing graphics or sound, lags, stops tracking challenges or behaves unexpectedly, try these three system checks first.
1. Check for updates
- Check that your browser is up to date (don't rely on automatic updates ā check manually)
- Install available Windows, macOS, iPhone/iPad, or Android updates.
- Restart your browser and device so pending updates can finish.
- Turn off and on your internet router for 1-2min at least once a month (yes, they update too)
- If you have graphics or display problems, check for an official graphics-driver update. (Step 2)
How to check for Browser Updates:
- Google: Click the three vertical dots (ā®) in the top-right corner ā Help ā About Google Chrome
- Edge: Click the three horizontal dots (ā¦) in the top-right corner ā Help and feedback ā About Microsoft Edge
- Firefox: Click the three horizontal lines (ā°) in the top-right corner ā Help ā About Firefox
How to check for Device Updates
- Windows: Click Start ā Settings ā Windows Update ā Check for updates
- macOS: Click the Apple menu ā System Settings ā General ā Software Update
- iPhone/iPad: Open Settings ā General ā Software Update
- Android (Phones and Tablets): Open Settings ā System ā System update (If you donāt see it there, some devices use Settings ā Software update instead.)
2. Check Graphics and Browser Settings
Even if you havenāt changed anything manually, device updates, browser updates, GPU driver updates, and extension updates can silently adjust settings that impact performance. These automatic changes can influence graphics behavior, hardware acceleration, permissions, privacy controls, and stored data.
Because of this, itās important to review your graphics and browser settings regularly. Doing so can stabilize gameplay, prevent freezing, reduce visual glitches, and resolve issues caused by unexpected configuration changes.
- Windows users keep your graphics driver updated. Outdated drivers can cause freezing, black screens, missing graphics, sound issues, and other display problems.
- Check your display refresh rate. If a game freezes or displays incorrectly, try setting the refresh rate to 60 Hz while playing, if that option is available. You can return to your original setting afterward.
- Keep browser hardware acceleration enabled. Turning this off can reduce performance and cause visual glitches.
- Review extensions and background programs. Ad blockers, VPNs, privacy tools, unnecessary tabs, videos, downloads, and other apps can interfere with game performance.
- Try another updated, supported browser. Each browser uses different settings, extensions, stored files, and graphics processes. One may work correctly when another does not.
- Maintain each browser individually ā If you use more than one browser, remember that each has its own cache, permissions, extensions, updates and graphics settings.
3. Cleaning and Device Performance
Cleaning goes beyond clearing cookies and cache. A browserābased game site depends on the overall condition of your browser, device, available storage, running programs, extensions, and even your equipment. These differences at times may explain why a game works perfectly for one player but not another.
When Pogo, your browser, or your device receives an update, some of that older stored data may no longer match the newer files. Outdated data can interfere with how a game loads, displays, tracks progress, or performs. Clearing unnecessary or outdated data gives your browser and device a clean environment to use the newest files and helps games run more smoothly.
There are various ways to optimize your device, but weāll stick to the basics in this discussion.
Over time, browsers and devices store temporary files, cookies, site data, downloads, settings, and other cached information. When this data builds up, it can interfere with loading new or updated files, cause outdated assets to be reused, and lead to a variety of performance issues.
If you are interested in deeper knowledge, I highly recommend viewing a YouTube video that outlines the cleaning and optimization techniques specific to your device. This is often the easiest way to visually follow the process, along with an explanation of the underlying principles.
Just as Pogo maintains their platform, we must maintain our own devices. Regular cleaning, updates, and basic upkeep are necessary because modern technology evolves constantly and outdated or cluttered systems can interfere with performance, updates, and gameplay.

šImportant Reminder: Reporting Issues
Pogo is a worldwide gaming site used on an enormous mix of browsers, operating systems, and device configurations. With so much variation, even small differences can affect how a single game loads or performs.
If you experience any issue, please start by following the troubleshooting steps. When reporting an issue here in EA Pogo Forums, you may be asked for specific information such as
- Pogo username
- Device Type (PC, Laptop, Phone, Tablet)
- OS version (Windows 10, Windows 11, macOS, iOS, Android)
- Browsers Tested (Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.)
- Any error messages or screenshots
Most of this information can be found by selecting the Settings option on your device. There is also a guide to help ā How to Report a Problem on Pogo - Complete Guide | EA Forums
Troubleshooting May Not Help on Retired Devices
As web technologies and browsers advance, older devices may face growing challenges in terms of compatibility and performance. Systems equipped with outdated hardware, older graphics drivers, limited memory, or browsers that are unable to receive the latest updates may find it difficult to reliably operate modern games and websites.
With more updates on the horizon, this will place greater demands on aging hardware. Updates and fixes are limited by what the manufacturer still supports, and as a result, troubleshooting may have limited effectiveness.
