Losing connection in Daily Sudoku

If I'm idle in Daily Sudoku long enough to get this:

    Still Playing?
    Press CONTINUE to prevent your game from ending due to inactivity.

I press continue and continue always fails.  I always get:

    Connection Lost.
    Verify that you’re still connected to the Internet and try again.

 

Needless to say, I am still connected to the internet.  Simply reloading the page proves that, as the page always reloads without any need for me to reconnect.  These days, I don't even bother checking to see if I'm really still connected, as I always am.

 

Note that in other games, I don't have this problem.  I do get time out warnings for being idle occasionally, but pressing continue in those games always works.  For some reason, Daily Sudoku "thinks" I'm disconnected when I'm not.

 

I was doing this in Firefox.  So, I cleared cache there and tried again with the same result.  I tried Safari, too, and got the same results.  It is tedious to have to keep reloading and repeating bits of games every time I get distracted by something.

 

This has been reported before but hasn't made the "Current known issues" list, nor have I seen a solution.

 

System info:

  • MacOS Monterey 12.6
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch 2018 with 32Gb Ram)
  • Firefox 105.0.1
  • Safari 16.0

    Hi @liz4cps 

      

    Can you try going through the following steps and let us know if you continue running into issues after? 

       

    • Restart your device and modem/router then try to load your game     
    • Clear your Cache/Cookies (<-- link)   
    • Check your Device (<-- Link) for updates, Check for Browser (<-- link) Updates     
    • Try with your Browsers Incognito/Prive Mode (This may require you to manually sign in)   
    • Check your device meets the Requirements (<-- click here) to play POGO games

    Been there; done that; not sure if I want the t-shirt...

    Actually, i hadn't done the incognito mode but that didn't help either.

    This problem has been happening for months, thru various and sundry updates; almost no real outages.  It is only Daily Sudoku, too.  I do get distracted playing other games and get the "Continue?" dialog from time to time.  In all the other games, I click "Continue" and I'm back in the game without reloading.  But Daily Sudoku is different; it never lets me continue.

    I realize this probably isn't a common problem, but it's been happening since July.  At first, I shrugged it off, but it keeps happening.  It gets tedious.

    @liz4cps Thanks for going through those steps, to confirm does this happens every time you play Daily Sudoku, or is it occasional?

    It happens every time I'm idle long enough, so that's every time I play or nearly every time I play, often multiple times.

    @liz4cps To check do you use Wifi or is your device connected via ethernet cable to your home network?

    Any news?  I've had to reload the game more than usual today (4-5 times?); maybe distracted watching news or something; lol.  Any chance you could simply lengthen the idle time?  Make it 30 minutes!  60 minutes?  lol

    Seriously, it's especially bad when you finish a puzzle but don't wait for the celebration thing to finish right then.  When you reload, you have to finish the puzzle again.  If this happens more than once for the same puzzle, it'll eventually "forget" you solved all the green squares on time -- which means you have to start that puzzle over again to collect those, a game you actually did complete and get all the green squares the first time around.

    This is still happening and is pretty much a daily occurrence.

    Worse, I got an idle warning within a minute of finishing a game; what I did:

    1. finished a game but did not click on "continue" afterwards; stars were not yet awarded
    2. looked away for a couple minutes
    3. returned to the game, glad to find I didn't get an idle warning
    4. clicked "continue", etc, until I was awarded the stars for the game
    5. looked away again, but for only about half a minute; I think I read one short text message and typed one short response in Messages on my Mac
    6. looked back again

    What I expected:

    • to see the calendar and start the next game

    What I actually found:

    • had a "Still playing?" warning

    This meant I had to refresh yet again, probably the 3rd or 4th time since I started playing today.

    This makes no sense.  What is the time before the idle warning comes up?  Why wouldn't clicking on buttons cause the idle time to reset?  Shouldn't I have at least 5 minutes before it warns me about being idle?

    Again, if you cannot figure this out, please, please, please lengthen the idle time.

    Note that refreshing is pain for two reasons:

    1. I often lose the chat window (after refreshing, chat will not open, saying it's gotten disconnected)
    2. I always lose at least a few moves, sometimes, the stars, too; sometimes, the whole game, if I've gone idle too many times on a single game

    What is the idle time for this game?  This time, I got up for a minute and then came back and had the idle warning.  It wouldn't matter if the stupid thing could be cleared easily, but being kicked out of the game so often is a real pain.

    One minor improvement:  I usually do get back into the chat now.  Thanks for that, as I'm not losing as much.

    Please lengthen the idle time or fix the underlying bug.  This is still pretty tedious as I am often losing some game play.  Again, other games can continue after an idle warning; I just click on "continue" and continue playing the game.  There is something broken with Daily Sudoku, in particular.  It never continues.
