3-input grabs are INCONSISTENT AF

Devs,

I spent the last 700 hrs skating realistic street style and I gotta be honest;

3-input grabs are so incredibly inconsistent I have yet to be able to add one to a line. I have been trying to AirWalk at the end of this line for 10 minutes now and I keep doing the Christ Air?

It's so incredibly inconsistent, it seems to work best if I press them ALL AT THE SAME TIME rather than how the SKATEPEDIA describes how you do it: [ R⬇️ > L2 + B ] What does > mean and what does + mean if they are meant to be pressed at the same  exact time?

Am I doing something wrong? Or am I misreading the skatepedia?

Edit, if you're skating vert, you may want to try holding the controller a little differently. Instead of my thumb being used for pushing, I use my index finger to press the face buttons, and for the shoulder buttons I use my middle finger for the bumper and my ring finger for the trigger. That leaves my thumb free to stay on the right stick at all times.

This is what I was referring to when I commented. I assumed you meant you held your controller differently when skating vert, and needed to push, which is why I was asking why u would need to push in vert when u can just pump with the trigger to keep your speed. Obviously pumping won't work on flat ground, but I use it in street when hitting banks or any surface that isn't flat.

  • The Airwalk and Tailwalk are consistent. Most of the time the issue stems from one of three things:

    1. The animation that happens when holding Right Stick down not registering or completing.
    2. Doing the grab too soon
    3. Waiting too long after holding down the Right Stick to do the grab.

When you move the Right Stick while in the air, the skater will shift the board with their legs. Holding down will bring the board up slightly so a Nose Grab can be done. Grabbing too soon before the animation happens or waiting too long after the animation will cause a FS Grab which will then cause a Christ Air to happen when u do the No Foot Grab.

Personally, I was the having the first issue. I would do a flip trick before the Airwalk and wouldn't let the flip trick animation finish before holding down the Right Stick, causing the board shift animation to not register and not happen which caused my skater to do a FS Grab when I hit the RT. Pressing B for the No Foot Grab would then cause the Christ Air.

Ah yeah mate, I'll just pump this flatground, that'll work a treat. Cheers.

You'll have to tell this guy that he has to pump the street in order to do a Benihana over the bin. Of course, the only context for someone doing a grab is vert skating, nobody ever does them in street skating. Maybe take some time to read the thread before commenting something so ridiculous

Wait, why would u need your thumb to push while skating vert?? Just pump. Please.

I can tell you exactly what's going wrong, it's not a bug.

People will often mistakenly press the grab button while they're pulling the stick down or up for tail or nose grab. If you complete the grab before you've confirmed the board's position, it will just be a normal BS grab and so when you press B, you will do a Christ Air.

The reason they're presented that way is that you have to hold the grab to stay nosegrab/tailgrab, that is a combination you must do. People misinterpret it as a simultaneous action, and that's why they will keep doing Christ Airs.  The grab animation will always take priority over the right stick, so you have to follow the game's exact order.

Right stick first, then grab and no-foot. People mistakenly think of nose grabs as a combination of two actions, rather than a chain of inputs. When you get good enough, you can frontload the right stick inputs - like a fighting game - to do combo grabs fast.

So the input requires practice and some patience, but it is 100% consistent with no issues.

I think what was happening to me was different than just mis-input.

I really got the Airwalk down now but I have to press all 3 at the same time? It's weird.

The issue I was having was near the Vault Tunnel. There's a ramp with a rail on one side of the vault tunnel and I was trying OVER AND OVER to airwalk down the ramp but it kept doing the Christ Air regardless of how accurate my input was for the airwalk.

I had the airwalk down by the time I was trying this. It was almost like the game was acting different once that little down-ramp was in front of me almost like I wouldn't have enough air-time for the grab so it would just do a christ air? But then once I turn around and ramp off a different spot the airwalk would work.

Either something is inherently wrong with down-ramps and 3-button grabs because they become impossible down a down-ramp like the one near the Vault Tunnel. I wanted a line starting with the airwalk and it wouldn't work there so i had to go somewhere else lmao.

They are consistent, the game just shows you the most consistent way which is to confirm the nosegrab/tailgrab first and then B/Circle, once you get really used to doing these tricks you can just go straight into the airwalk/tailwalk. If you're mostly a realistic street skater type of player it's common to not be super familiar with the grabs because most street lines just don't give you the airtime you need.

They don't explain it very well in the skatepedia. It's more like ( R⬇️ + L2 ) -> ( L2 + B ), meaning the right stick has to be held at the same time as L2 initially, but then you can let go of the stick while still holding L2 and press B to do the no foot. I don't have any problems with these grabs after figuring that part out, it's just a matter of imprecise inputs when I'm trying to do them fast that trip me up now. The bigger problem for me is trying to do a Japan Air without just fingerflipping the Weddle 😂

Had to test this, Airwalk/tailwalks are some of my favorite grabs and I do them all the time! It's three inputs but you're only pushing two at a time, you actually let go of the stick input after you catch the grab. It's basically just  Tailgrab + B or Nosegrab + B, i think it's just hard to display through their diagrams. Hope this helps!

  • YEAH THEY ARE BUSTED

I Just tried like 50 times in a row to do a damned airwalk and I've done it once so I know its possible but why is it doing CHRIST AIRS OVER AND OVER AND OVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
