My Xbox Controller Not Working on Steam Version

I downloaded the game on Steam but so far I'm not able to play it. All over the screen it has the button maps for a PS5 controller but when I touch the buttons on my xbox controller it shows the button maps for an xbox controller until I let go of the buttons again. It just keeps reverting back to PS5 button maps. But what makes it unplayable is that whenever I'm not touching any buttons on my xbox controller in game, my character curls up into a ball. As soon as I start moving or press another button he stands up like normal, but when I let go of the controller he curls back up into a ball. Nowhere on the internet seems to be able to help me with this. I have tried changing a bunch of steam controller settings but nothing is working. I don't know if this is a bug with the game or if it's steam but I just wanted to bring it up in case anyone else is having the same problem and how they fixed it if they were able to.
