Yeah, providing a mechanism to further customize, including adding characters, would be awesome. However, I really don't see this happening at this point in the game's lifecycle.
BTW - EA did not cut support "just as the game hit its stride". The game peaked before they stopped releasing enhancements - similar to what happens with most every other video game on the planet.
