Solved

annoying texture popping issue in SWTOR

Ive been having a problem with a textures in game for quite some time, then I found a perfect solution here and it helped me, but after update 7.2.1. , after they bringed a new 64-bit client to the game the old porblem have returned maybe someone knows something about how can I fix it?

This video show what kind of problem I have here

another example here

    The issue is that the video card has insufficient dedicated vram and doesnt meet the games minimum requirement of 1GB Vram

    unfortunately using compat mode was one way to fool how memory was utilised , but that cant be done anymore

    Apart from buying a video card that meets the "minimum" game requirements you can check if yours is say a intel card whether you can increase the available vram in the bios , or you can try a regedit to fake the vram example https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/video-ram-windows-10/ (not sure if faking it will work though)

  • pretty strange, because I never had a problems with my current setup, Ive been playing for quite some time with full max of graphics settings and never had any problem like this untill one day it just started to happend without any clear reasons why, at the begining it was just a small details  and then it developed into something like on video, and still it doesnt always happens to me.

  • yeah I hear you, thank you for a help, but I just fixed this problem.

  • I just added additional vram to my graphic card through BIOS, sorry if you waited some kind computer sorcery from me.

  • so now after 7.3 I got one question....WTF are they doin???

    even earlier today before 7.3 dropped, on low texture settings with everything else maxed out the game was mostly playable if just a little anoying
    BUT NOW no matter what you do, even if it says everything is on ultra high the graphics are completely potato...no flickering though...GREAT JOB devs! rendering the game more a more unplayable with every update, seems like for good this time

    any suggestions, good sir?

    I presume the only way they can stop flickering is to lower the amount of textures as low as possible, so they will ascertain systems that are below a threshold point on Vram and force the lowest textures possible

    Known Solutions available are either to increase the amount of Vram assigned in the system Bios , or replace the video card with one that has more Vram

    edit:

    If colorblind mode is back then you can try the below , i posted this previously

    Press the [Windows] Key + [R] at the same time

    Copy the following in to the text box and press ok

    %localappdata%\swtor\swtor\settings

    Open the client_settings.ini file in notepad and ensure the following are displayed within

    example mine for nvidia card is shown as

    InfoGraphicsVendor = NVIDIA_GPU
    InfoGraphicsVideoMemoryMB = 8011
    MinspecVramCutoffMB = 256

    Lower the MinspecVramCutoffMB = 256 below your reported dedicated video ram in the dxdiag
    so for example MinspecVramCutoffMB = 128

    Just note 256 is not the minspecvram minspec that is 1024 , 256 is when they force low textures at present

  • @proxos666at quick glance that seems to be the solution (at least for now).

    still it is strange that they would force that cutoff cause as i ve been saying the game was playable at low texture settings before and with these kinds of tweaks with every update they are playing with fire here ruining the game for those who play from laptops, especially considering the fact that SWTOR's existence depends on holding on to as much of it's playerbase as possible...good thing we got you, sir

    and a quick follow up - i've tried to increase the amount of Vram (i got 4Gb overall but only 128Mb of dedicated) not in Bios cause there's no option but in registry - didn't work for me, i guess it is not a 100% thing

    update: well yes basically it reverted back to what it was before 7.3 except flickering is less frequent on high texture settings
