I recently wanted to return to the game to check out the new expansions but all i'm getting is an "Certificate authentication failed, please contact the support" when i try to start the launcher.
Running Win7, tried the LRU which gave the same certificate error, system date/time are correct
What could create said error and how could it be fixed?

wasn't able to find any launcher logs as the log folders are non existant also a did a system wide search for any logs with no result
If the date - time/year is correct, i guess the next obvious cause is that the certificates are not updated on that OS
Any optional windows updates available ?
As per DxDiag you got a Windows build which is supported by the game (played on the same version). If you do not have any update errors or corrupted Windows data you should be ok to go.
Maybe the launcher is wrong.
How old is your SWTOR installation? Is it a new one or old one? Did you install from disc or did you download the launcher from the webside?
@proxos666no idea if the certs are updated, never had an certificate error before. tried the rootsupd.exe but no change so far. no win updates outstanding besides language packs.
@Tonfui've played before with that very same rig and the same OS in early 2016. I didn't have Swtor installed atm so i grabbed the launcher from the website and installed it but couldn't download anything because of the error.
Can you confirm what the last installed windows update was ? it should be KB4284826 as seen at this link
What antivirus are you using , as the launcher is built on the chromium framework anything that affects a web browser can affect the launcher.
i can confirm the monthly roll up KB4284826 is the last one installed.
using Avira antivir, the same as i used when i last played. even tried with av and firewall shut down with no results
Just to be 100% sure is the bios date time correct too ?
It has been a while since i have had to look at certificate errors so will need to dig further
checked bios date/time. it's correct
never really had to do with certificates at all. is it possible to check if the needed cert is in place or could it be added manually?
Can you check if KB3033929 was installed , it is related to this advisory for SHA2 in Windows 7
