8 years agocrash to desktop
i get a couple of min in sometimes just a few seconds into the game after the character loads into the game and it sends me to the desktop. no crash warning or report no error at all just right to th...
it is highly unlikely to be just a coincidence, ack it is unusual for no errors appearing, but it may explain if the OS hasn't been able to detect the issue for some reason and the game closing was an early symptom.
it wasn't the corrupt hard drive that makes the game quit, I got a new one, same version as the last but the game still quits to the desktop with no error.
Unfortunately I have no more advice on where to go from here on a cause, there has to be something unique going on.
There has to be something on that system as the cause that just cant pin point remotely i am afraid.
Have flaggged @EA_Kipling to see if he has any further suggestions.
Is there specific swtor file the crash files are going too that I am missing?
There is another log location at C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\BioWare\Star Wars-The Old Republic\swtor\retailclient\swtor\logs
If you want to attach the latest one that had the close it may give an indication of where the game was when it occured, maybe @EA_Kipling can use that to comment
here are the 3 files that were in the folder, the last one i posted was the wrong file so i deleted that post and made this one, sorry. about the different names, i was using my tablet before with the Revan134
I got an error message now but it was quick it said error c5 and quit the game just after I pushed launch
C5 is corruption given you are using non streaming the repair option on the launcher needs to be used before pressing play.
Are you certain the previous drive was dead and not a corrupted file system say by faulty memory ?
Edit - have you run a chkdsk on the drive that has swtor installed to check the file system on that drive ?
Before I posted this I had disabled grass and shadow in the game and it was working for 2 hours then crashed to the desktop again so I tried the delete files and repair like you said in previous posts and it repair 94 files. Then this c5 error started when I pushed play. I pushed repair again just now and it' saying repairing 94 files again. And I did a sfc scan and it came up with did not find any integrity violations. Chkdsk found no problems on the file system
It does sounds like that install is corrupted for some reason i'm afraid, I am not sure repair will be able to sort it and reinstall may be needed, if it persists you may need to try (bitraider) streaming to see if it stops this corruption appearing.
sorry have to go for the night its 1134pm here now
some player said they set the CCC to override the application and it worked but I am not sure how to make the CCC override this application
http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=664588&page=8
The equivalent to the CCC is the Nvidia Control Panel in your case and the swtor profile in the nvidia control panel.
idea is to enable AA etc in that profile and disable in-game settings , i doubt this will help though.
its got to be a graphics problem, I lowered grass to 0, trees to 0, shadows off, bloom and the other 2 on top off and I got an hour out of it before it quit to the desktop again
Actually thinking on it , it could still be a power supply/ voltage type issue somehow, ordinarily if a major power supply issue occurs it would turn the system off, but if it is unstable it is feasible the game could simply close.
This power supply issue could still be a heat induced issue , I think what ever is occurring is hardware based, but only way to tell is swap parts out for testing.
ya its not just swtor anymore, dawn of war 3 just quit on me too, has to be hardware problem
once again I boosted my power from 1000 to 1037 which is 2 up from the normal using precision x, and I put my fans to the max, and dawn of war didn't crash im going to test this on swtor now, the thing that worries me is it warns you that increasing voltage can result in damage
not voltage I boosted it even higher and swtor still quit
It wont be the voltage itself per sey need to monitor stability me thinks for the 3.3v , 5v and 12v rails
I went to check my drivers to make sure I didn't miss something incase that was the problem, Microsoft said to use one called Driver Support and it found a lot needed updates but it would need me to pay for it. I know this is a little off topic but know any good free ones, I tried DriverMax but it turned out to be malware
Providing windows 7 updates are done, there are no other drivers to update for your system that will likely affect this
You could do a free upgrade to windows 10 still using https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade until 31 Dec 2017
do you think upgrading will fix this?
No idea but if you want to upgrade to windows 10 for free it expires at the end of this month.
At least you can eliminate an issue with the OS after upgrading.
@DemonicLord134 Since the crashes have extended to other games unrelated to SWTOR, this has gone outside of my scope unfortunately. @proxos666 seems to have a handle on brainstorming and steering you in the right direction, though.
its not the OS I got about 10 min into it the start of lady of sorrows, just as it finished the first cinematic, that's when it crashed again. this all started when the newest patch came. it has never done anything like this before. thank you for being so patient with me about this
I'm afraid your going to need to take a good look at the hardware and try and narrow the source
If you can borrow a power supply and/or video card to test with is likely a good starting place.
its not hardware I put in the NVidia 480 video card my dad had in his old computer and the game still crashed after about 10 min, my dad said the power supply is less than 6 months old for me so it cant be that. I turned all the graphics down to medium but shadows and grass are off or very low. actually my fans seemed to be pushing them self harder than they were before when I was in the game.
