Game forcing desktop resolution to 800x600

Question

Been playing the game just fine for the last 2 months. All of a sudden, today I try to launch and it forces my desktop to 800x600 (1920x1080) usually and doesn't launch. I have to force close the game. I've tried restarting my PC and it doesn't help. No other games are causing this issue, I can play them just fine as before at 1920x1080. But everytime I try to launch The Old Republic, my desktop's resolution becomes 800x600.

If that doesn't work, go to %LocalAppData%\SWTOR\swtor\settings\
Open the client_settings.ini
Change the lines "Height", "Width", "NativeHeight" and "NativeWidth" to match your screens resolution.
Save, close, launch the game.

I am experiencing the same thing as this person but neither of these worked, my settings file was empty when i went into the file. any ideas?
