Launcher error: Code 961

It's been 2 days since I was able to login, I tried resetting my router, restarting my pc, reinstalling the game, but nothing seems to work, the launcher keeps showing an error code 961 - WebGet_Error_Timeout

  • I solved the problem with adding swtor launcher and set up exe manually from windows firewall and enable private connection. This is seems to be a problem with how the game swapped the way they push the updates.  At least for this particular error code. I guess steam update goes with steam connection that's why it wasn't blocked there but only the direct launcher.

Thank you for your help too. :D

  • normally seen with systems using avast antivirus

try adding launcher.exe or the entire swtor folder to the exception list

If using Avast, Open Avast, go to Settings > General > Exceptions, and add the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\BioWare\Star Wars - The Old Republic.

What anti virus are you using ? have you tried uninstalling the antivirus ( reboot the pc) and test , then reinstall the antivirus

Does the steam version of the launcher do the same thing

This is normally a communication issue commonly caused by an antivirus but a firewall / port block could also cause it
Maybe try a clean boot too per this guide

Im using Kaspersky, i had turned it off and run the launcher as admin right after rebooting my pc. It didnt work. I re-installed the entire game and it still wont work. Tho the version installed from steam works. I have no idea what cause such difference.

Likely Kaspersky somehow , the launcher is like a web browser so any AV processes that insert into a web browser can affect the launcher

best way to know is to uninstall Kaspersky temporarily

an old issue use to be regarding secure connections but that was like a decade ago - see example at this link

Disable Secure Connections Scanning: Open Kaspersky, go to Settings > Network Settings, and ensure "Scan encrypted connections" is turned off
