When it is like that what occurs if you press ALT + Enter keys together ?
Are you able to get back to windows at present ?
Nope, I pressed ALT TAB and ALT F4 and nothing. Even tried CTL ALT DELETE and nothing. I did install it this time and clicked play and I had to turn my PC off. No viruses this time, but I need to fix this
What do you mean no viruses this time , what indicator are you determining its a virus , is this a message from an antivirus program ?
what did you install and if not running the game are you able to get into windows on a fresh computer restart ?
The last time that I installed and played it, it did the same thing, but when I tried to log back on the PC, it still said unsupported mode.
Are you pretty good with computers ? this is not a virus
From what you are saying I know what is occurring but fixing it is not as simple as knowing
Initially I would recommend booting up in safe mode (F8 on startup) and going into device manager and uninstalling both the monitor listed and the video driver for the video card and reboot back to normal and see if that brings normal windows back up.
There is another way to sort this but it will require a windows DVD do you have this ? if it comes to it ?
OK then thanks for the help.
You can try a restore to just before this occurred , if that fails see here about an inplace repair it will keep all your current programs etc intact.
Wait what if I try to get it to play in windowed mode?
I would need to know more about your hardware setup to know what is the trigger on this, but I wouldn't run swtor until this is identified.
it will be tied to the monitor somehow though so a different monitor will likely be unaffected by this
Can try just using window mode but I cant say for certain this wont re-occur
You still need to be able to get back to normal boot initially
This sounds like an issue with swtor trying to use a resolution that the monitor doesn't seem very happy with and resulted in a black screen and ended up hitting the power button to restart the PC because you cant see anything, what i ended up doing is either changing the resolution in the swtor config file or deleting it all together and restarting the game which will create a new config file but you will need to readjust the in-game graphics once you are able to play xD

i found this in a search http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=51706
unfortunately this likely ( like very doubtful ) that will help here, this is EDID issues and it seems to be a day for them
This one is on the worst side of things and where he is at , at present is hard to recover from with the settings in the registry , a system restore will get him back to square one but not sort the cause. Inplace repair is the next best option , but then it still leaves the underlaying cause.
Changing monitor is the simplest solution off the top of my head

So you are able to get back into windows on a normal boot ? that is my main concern at present
OK fixed the game issue. pressing ALT Enter fixed the issue.
proxo I * love you man! I've been trying to fix this for years and years.
