A question about Scythe gift pack

Hi folks, 

A friend wants to buy it to me as a gift knowing that I’m farming both inquisitors and imperial ships. However, the pack description says that the grand inquisitor will be upped to R5 only if he’s already at 7 stars. I didn’t get him yet. What will happen in this case? Would this upgrade just go to waste or magically manifest when I get him to 7 stars? Can I “ignore” the gift and simply leave it not opened until I get the grand inquisitor to 7 stars nevermind the 5th brother? Would it not expire in such a case? It’s rather confusing.
