A Serious Synergy Supersizing

I have been talking with my guildmates about doing a huge overhaul of the synergy system in the game. We think that, in addition to improving existing faction synergies, other synergies should be added as well.

These synergies would provide small buffs for placing 2 or 3 toons on the same squad in addition to any faction bonuses they may already receive. Perhaps examples will clear this up:

Darth Maul and Savage Opress on the same team receive a "brothers" synergy and gain 2% health up. Again, in addition to any bonuses they might get for a sith leader bonus or UA.

Han and Chewie gain a "comrade" bonus that grants them both +3% critical chance

Poggle and Nute get an ally bonus of +3 armor.

Luke, Biggs, and Wedge receive the Red Squadron bonus, giving +2 speed if 2 are on the squad, and +3 if all 3 are together.

Leia and Han receive a romance bonus of...etc.

I'm not suggesting these exact bonuses, but these synergies with these kinds of small bonuses would be a lot of fun.

My guildies and I discussed the possibility of releasing a set # of synergies and letting us find them by testing different squad combinations.

We even talked about giving negative synergies for putting enemies on the same team like:

Leia and Tarkin get the "you blew up Alderaan" debuff, granting each one -3% max health.

This would add a TON of interesting factors to the game. What do you guys think?

EDIT: After reading a lot of comments, it seems fit to mention that I do not think it likely at this time that this feature will be added to the game. HOWEVER, The primary reason for having a forum of any type is the exchange of ideas. This post is about ideas, and I would appreciate if you could all keep the whining about the unlikeliness of implementation and also about the number of existing and potential bugs to a minimum.
  • What a truly great idea. As someone who has worked tirelessly to acquire as many toons as possible, this would be a great way to reward diversity among collections and teams. I'm so sick of the same five characters in GW and the Arena. I mean I know Rey is like Superman on Androgel, but come on. It's time for ideas like this to breathe new life into a constipated state of gameplay.

  • I agree with the take it slow - could be very easy to upset the apple cart and have a whole new wave of moaning on the forum but love the idea of making synergies count for more and not just leader bonuses

    Display would be very easy - just use colour-code outlines in the character selection screen and limit to 1 synergy per character (eg you don't get Vader/Sid boost and Vader Luke debuff having all 3. In case of conflict/more than 1 synergy, the leader synergy rules)

    Other relationship examples & synergy ideas
    Lando & Lobot: Calculated Risk: Crit chance +2%, gain evasion up 1 turn on a miss/dodge
    Boba & Han: Carbonite Capture: Han loses Shoots First
    Finn & Poe: Tag Team: Both gain +15STR & +15AGI
    RP & FOTP: Dog Fight: Lose 3 speed
    Veers & Stormtrooper: Planetary Assault +30% prob of ability block on base attack
    Tarkin (used to be just Admiral Tarkin) & CUP: Law & Order : Boost CUPs debuff probabilities by 20% on Jedi, Clones and Scoundrels

    Or. Only Vader and Old Ben can act for 6 turns and can only target each other, the rest are stunned during this duration. (To watch the legendary geriatric duel)
  • Great idea. How about opposite debuffs? ie if I have Leia and you have Vader on the opposite side there is an debuff for Leia "interrogation". Vader gets a debuff if you use Luke. Its like a game I used to play magic the gathering complex but that what makes if fun. Also these specials should not be advertised they should be found out over time ( possible nerf if a user comes up with a god combo).
  • It's been a couple months, but I was just reminded of this and wanted to resurrect the discussion.

    I must say...I love that this has actually been implemented to some degree in the case of Biggs and Wedge. I just think we need a lot more examples...although I wasn't thinking the synergies would be as drastic as they are with Wiggs.
  • Very imaginative. I think it's an interesting idea, However.... If they balanced the game instead of this silly merry go round of OP toons/combo's I think we would have a better state for this kind of thing to be implemented. I like the idea of specific abilities being activated with combinations of characters or when a specific character on the opposing team was present, very theatrical. But I don't think it's possible for them to do without disturbing the already unbalanced state further.

    Well I think they could use it as part of a rebalancing effort.
  • A rebalance would be just that, your talking about changing base stats and abilities across the board for that. For them to do incremental balance changes through synergy based abilities sounds unlikely. It is a nice novel idea though.
