My guild HAS done this.... and for the past month the top finishers got more gear in quantity of course, but FAR less useful gear. Full pieces of highly sought after gear appeared in spots 10-30 far more than the top 5. The gear that is needed the most by EVERYONE should be given in raid rewards. Most of the salvage gear they giving people that are participating in HEROIC raids will not need!
You are comparing spot #1 with spots #11 to 30... That's picking and choosing the best rewards given to 20 people and then comparing it to 1. Have you tried comparing gear rewards for rank #1 and rank #28 for the next 10 raids only? I doubt they will end up with more cuffs, or furnaces, or whatever is a useful gear compared to 1.
But hey, you can always finish in between 11 to 30. Since that's where all the best rewards are :)
