Got it, yet again the useful information is on reddit instead of the official forums.
This isn’t exactly in the “spirit” of improved communications we are looking for.

Technically speaking this is in the "spirit" of more communication, they are trying to get more information out there in multiple forms, which is "more". This is fitting with the idea of communicating more and being more transparent, which was the improvements the community was asking for.

I understand people may not like the form some of the early information is coming out but that is another topic, and doesn't take away from the fact that they are trying. Without a full time community manager this may just be easier for them.
