Character Salvage. (A good idea)

What if there was an item that we could purchase for say 5,000 crystals that would allow us to completely salvage/refund (get back) all invested gear, materials etc for a character of our choice per purchase.

I'm sure we all have characters that we had to grind months for that only served the purpose of say unlocking a character for Journey guide or even a GL, they just sit there never being used while we have to regrind all those resources to then upgrade the character we want and will use. I know I have a lot of them! So Imagine we could purchase an item that when used allows us to select a character we wish to remove all gear and materials from for a 100% return rate and for the cost of 5,000 crystals per use.

Now, this to me is a win-win for both EA as people will no doubt purchase more crystals and for the players because rather than spending months and months grinding the resources for a single character, we'd basically get everything we need to upgrade our preferred character. Obviously not every single character requires the exact same resources, so It's not like you'll always be able to instantly get one character up to relic level, but it would absolutely speed the process up by months.

This idea came to me when I realized just how much grinding was needed for me to get my newly aquired supreme leader kylo ren up in the gear levels. Having to grind up MK 7 Kyrotech shock prods is so annoying. I genuinely think this idea is awesome and should be seriously thought about. If you like this idea, share it around, the more people who hear about it and like it, the better the chances of someone actually seeing it and maybe implementing it.

Let me know your thoughts!

  • This has been suggested before, though I don’t remember anyone coming up with a suggested cost.

I don’t think CG would ever go for this - they want players to grow their rosters, not to run efficiency focused stripped down rosters.

If they ever did go for it, you should expect it to cost vastly more than 5k crystals. Stick a zero on the end of it, or imagine something in the region of $100 and they might be interested.

  • It's a lot of work and CG wouldn't do it for a mere 5,000 crystals.  If they did it, expect it to be somewhere between 15,000 and 25,000 crystals.  It would be at the level of diminishing returns for us, though players would do it, but CG's focus would be on how much they could bilk from us for it.  Because, CG's run by accountants now, not gamers.  So their priority is getting us to spend the most money possible with the least amount of work from them.

Whatelse73well, there's a complaint for everything...  Let's reframe your comment there:

CG is a game development business, owned by publicly traded corporation Electronic Arts.  They are a company that exists to make a product that will be profitable so as to provide a return on their investment and operating costs and provide a profit for their shareholders and stakeholders on top of that.  (None of this is bad or good it is simply what it is)

So yes...  they're not going to put developer time and effort into a feature that won't benefit their primary goal.  And being able to grind up unused characters to then reinvest the resources into a new character that you would lose doesn't benefit that primary goal at all, and would almost certainly hurt it.

It won't happen, it shouldn't happen (for the long-term health of the game), but also that's OK.  We can accept that CG as a company exists to make a profit (sidenote: this isn't to say the people at CG aren't gamers, that also is wrong) without projecting any negativity onto that fact.

  • If it was implemented it would cost $ not crystals, as this game is about paying to save time. Allowing F2P to salvage gear from farmed characters would allow for time savings on farms. Allowing F2P's to rent toons and swap the same gear from character to character would circumvent the pay to save time model the business of SWGOH is built around.
