Each assist deals 50% damage, and Echo's assists deal 60% less. Even with the bug, the combined damage of the attacks from a full clone squad was often less than Rey's leverage or a GS attack and assist. This is on a slower toon with next to no health and protection (able to be one shot by several characters), 8 turn cool down (before crits), and no built in defense mechanism.
The other benefit of the attack was the tempo generation off of Echo's additional assists generating turn meter (if the other clones were under 50% TM), applying speed down (Fives), Sapping TM (Rex), and a second heal from By the Book (If it is Omega). Not only has the damage potential of the attack gone with the fix, but the TM gain from the additional Echo assists as well. Darth Jay has outlined above how clones don't win through damage, but through Tempo/TM manipulation. Bad AI (particularly Rex and Cody) keeps the clones bad on defense.
I won't claim that it wasn't a bug, and didn't need to be fixed. However the fix with no additional adjustments to Cody leave what is presently a barely usable character (not only in team composition, but also and especially in Arena) requiring 2-300 dollars to fully develop to 7* out in the cold.
